Hi there,

I'm trying to make the zip version 'portable', which means that I can run it off my USB Stick and have my password saved into the sitemanager so that I can connect to them anytime.
However, it's not working. The FAQ says:
Quote:
Installing FileZilla on a USB stick or any other portable storage is just a matter of extracting/copying the FileZilla folder to that location, as the zip version of FileZilla always use the xml file for storing its settings.

But I already did that. I extracted the zip to my USB stick, launched Filezilla on computer A and entered some accounts into the sitemanager. Then unplugged the USB and plugged it into Computer B. On computer B I can launch FileZilla without problems but the sitemanager is empty.

Already tried searching sitemanager.xml on my USB stick btu I can't find it anywhere. I also did a complete search on Computer A but sitemanager.xml is nowhere to be found

Please help !

Thank you

Look into the docs subdirectory of the FZ directory. There is a file named fzdefaults.xml.example. Copy that file to the FZ directory, remove the .example extension, then open it with a texteditor. Inside are instructions how to make FileZilla save it's settings into the program dir.

I think the FAQ you've read is outdated.

Or you could just go to www.portableapps.com

Thanks for the replies.
I did the .xml trick and it worked.. however now I can't add any sites anymore. It now says 'Predefined Sites' and I can't add any new sites to the sitemanager anymore

Predefined are by definition unchangeable.

Did you click on 'My Sites'?

Once again, thanks for the replies.
I can add sites by clicking "My Sites" but then again, they aren't stored on the USB Flashdrive since they don't appear in the sitemanager on an other computer..

I'm now using the USB Version from portableapps which seems to do the job.. however I wonder if I can still update that version

I think you're using fzdefaults.xml the wrong way. There's more in it than just storing predefined sites. Did you read the example file completely?

Freekers - As "Updates" become available from FileZilla, the team at PortableApps stay pretty current with providing an up-to-date release of the PortableApps version with complete instructions of how to update. Those updates might be a few days behind Filezilla releases but still pretty current. One thing you should do is set the flag to NOT do auto updates as this will NOT pull from the PortableApps site.

Sorry for my delayed answer.

botg: I read fzdefaults.xml.example in full, but still something's wrong. The sites I added intially show up under 'Predefined Sites' and others under the usual sites. However I can't change/delete the sites under 'Predefined Sites' as you told me before

CHUCKASI: Okay, thanks for the headsup.
Tough, I still would prefer using the 'original' filezilla as I like the builtin update feature :)
