Re: Missing password feature now poses a serious security th

Give it up guys.... This has been explained to the author of Filezilla time and time again and he thinks that he is in the right and knows better than everyone else that this is not an issue or anything that he is going to address. People have been requesting this feature for years to no avail. No m...

Re: updated filezilla and then server got compromised

So why are you using cheap glass that breaks with the first stone? Really?? That's your answer?? I'm done with this conversation. You're being willfully stupid. I say stupid rather than ignorant because ignorance can be solved, usually by education. Stupid is intentional. You *KNOW* that people don...

Re: updated filezilla and then server got compromised

Exactly the opposite. My stance is that you need to protect your home, then you don't have to wrap all your tableware in bubblewrap. However if you let a crazed elephant in musth into your home, then not even the bubble wrap will help. Yours is a flawed analogy... Despite having door locks, someone...

Your logic is like saying, "Why put locks on my house or car because someone can throw a rock through a window and get in."

More of the same "La la la not my problem la la la..."

Laziness... Pure laziness...

I'm glad the makers of Linux, putty, Keepass, Firefox, et all don't have your philosophy.

Re: updated filezilla and then server got compromised

Especially if someone is using the "portable" version of FileZilla off of a thumb drive. If that file is encrypted that makes it more difficult to extract the information. Truecrypt anyone? So you're, again, falling back on the "La la la la not my problem la la la" mantra... That tells me that eith...

Re: updated filezilla and then server got compromised

Information security is like an onion... It's built on layers. And malware on your computer is a breach of the innermost layer. And not encrypting something that can be encrypted trivially is just plain stupid and bad practice. There are plenty of ways to steal the file itself without a machine bei...

Re: Install 3.7.3 successfully, but when quit reverts to 3.3

I have a MacBook with 10.8.4. I've had FZ for years, but have just updated to 3.7.3. Immediately after installed 3.7.3, FZ "About" shows the version as 3.7.3. However, when I close FZ and reopen, it shows the version as 3.3.5.1. To get 3.7.3 in About again, I need to reinstall the update from the i...

Re: updated filezilla and then server got compromised

If you have malware on your computer, then the second you decrypt any of those passwords/keys/tokens/whatever, the malware has full access to it. This is the real problem, malware on your computer. Be that as it may, that doesn't mean that it's not shitty infosec practice not to encrypt your file. ...

Re: updated filezilla and then server got compromised

Small correction: developer. There's only one. And obfuscation/encryption does not work well for GPL Open Source, where you have to provide everything to the public, even the encryption keys or how to calculate it. Guess what? Today's CPUs will crack it faster than you can blink. :( I'm not saving ...

Re: updated filezilla and then server got compromised

Change passwords immediately, but first scan your machine! Looks like you might have a malware infection. What Boco said. There is malware that specifically targets FileZilla stored usernames and passwords because the developers refuse to encrypt the file that stores that information, and they have...

Re: Download

I'm sorry, I don't understand French. Can you please rephrase your question in English? From Google Translate: I am very angry with the way we download Filezilla on the internet. Before you download a full version leave to the installation afterwards. Now we have to go through the download version ...

Re: What's up with the SFInstaller_SFFZ_filezilla_8992693_.e

It's not related to the bitness of your operating system. It's due to some firewall, router or other software with firewall-like functionality that modified HTTP traffic. The majority of users of FileZilla already runs a 64bit OS. Naturally, if there is any problem, most reports come from users of ...

Re: What's up with the SFInstaller_SFFZ_filezilla_8992693_.e

There's no toolbar being installed. Also, the installer works fine on 64bit system. The problem is with some firewall or proxy on your end that actively modifies HTTP traffic. Wrong... Several people have already reported issues with the installer on 64-bit systems, including with screen shots. You...

Re: Thoughts on the sitemanager.xml file

Like loads of other people, I fell foul of the trojan that steals the sitemanager.xml file. And all my sites were 'hacked'. My laptop is 'secured' by NOD32 and MalwareBytes - both of which are fully up-to-date paid versions, so I don't need a lecture on security. I have now taken steps to try and m...
