Getting "the selected file is already being edited" messages even when it's not

I'm trying to view/edit a remote file. I get "the selected file is already being edited" messages with a choice to reopen the local file (default) or discard local file then download and edit anew. But there is no file of the same name being edited in my BBEdit text editor. Is this a bug? Thanks, doug

Re: Can we re-order the list of hosts in the Site Manager?

OK, thanks. I guess I'll just change the alphabetical names then!

Can we re-order the list of hosts in the Site Manager?

I guess the title of the topic speaks for itself. But is there a way of dragging the hosts around in the Site Manager to rearrange the order?

Thanks,

Re: How can we open the local and remote versions of a file at the same time for comparison?

Thanks. That works.

I don't suppose there is a way of selecting the file in the local pane and doing a "reveal in Finder" on my Mac so I don't have to separately hunt for it, is there?

Re: Couldn't see a remote file after editing it

Actually, it turns out I can see the file. I was looking by last modified date. That's what appeared to not be working. If I reorder in alphabetical order it's in the remote listing, and has the correct date (today), but if I switched to last modified order it wasn't showing in the right order. But....

Couldn't see a remote file after editing it

I just used Filezilla to remotely view and edit a text file. After saving it, I didn't see it in the remote directory, even after refreshing, and even after quitting and restarting Filezilla. I logged into the remote server via the shell and the file was there (whew). I then tried Forklift (an FTP c...

How can we open the local and remote versions of a file at the same time for comparison?

I would like to open the local version of a text file and compare it with the remote version and incorporate changes. But if I have the local version open and try to view/edit the remote version it just offers to download and replace the local version, which is the last thing I want to do. In previo...

Is there an easy way to share my settings with somebody?

For the Mac, I think I set up things nicely now to work with my servers, see the files being transferred, get notifications, etc. Rather than explain all the settings one-by-one to other users who use our servers, is there a way of sending them a settings file (that doesn't include my own Site Manag...

Re: Why are the remote bytes shown different from the local bytes?

It's interesting that the other FTP clients I've tried: YummyFTP (alas, no longer works under Catalina), Forklift, and Transmit all leave the line endings as they were apparently. This is the first client I've ever seen where the file sizes change. I did try some tests after uploading as binary. For...

Re: Why are the remote bytes shown different from the local bytes?

If the original file was created in Windows (CRLF) and uploaded to Linux wouldn't you expect the file size to get smaller then after the conversion? It got larger, by one byte per line.

Re: Why are the remote bytes shown different from the local bytes?

Since Linux and Mac both use one char line endings, and since the remote server is Linux, and my computer is Mac, I wonder why the number of bytes changed then...

Re: Why are the remote bytes shown different from the local bytes?

And solved. I just changed the transfer type from auto to binary and it works like other clients now.

I think all modern editors can deal with the different line endings anyway.

Whew.

Re: Why are the remote bytes shown different from the local bytes?

Brainstorm. I bet I know what FZ is doing. It's adjusting the character used for carriage-return-line-feed in both directions because it knows it's clearly a text file from the .txt extension. Looking at the wc results again: 102454 873047 5833434 schoolList.txt 102454 873047 5935888 schoolList2.txt...
