Restricting permissions is done on the FTP server (account settings). The FTP client has nothing to do with this.

In the Settings (Connection - SFTP), do you have any key listed under "Public Key Authentication"? Furthermore, do you maybe have keys stored in PuTTY's PageAnt? These keys are tried against any SFTP server.

It is not possible to compile a new version of the old server code anymore. To my knowledge, it doesn't compile correctly anymore on a new compiler/linker.

FileZilla Server does support IP range blocks. They have to be given in CIDR notation.
e. g. 180.217.*.* would be 180.217.0.0/16 in CIDR notation.

The Permissions in the Edit menu need to be adjusted only for FileZilla Pro purchased from the Apple Store, in order to overcome Apple's mandatory Sandbox feature.
