If you are using Filezilla server, the ability to change the control ports can be found within the settings menu. If you change the default control port from 21 to something else, this should automatically change port 20 as well. This is because the FTP protocol automatically uses the main control p...

Have you confirmed that the PASSIVE mode is enabled in your browser?

In IE, you can find it at: TOOLS > INTERNET OPTIONS > ADVANCED tab.

Make sure the "USE PASSIVE FTP (for Firewall and DSL modem capability)
is checked.

Can you recommend a site that might give information about the limitations of FTP?

For example, is there a file size limitation?
Is there any way to increase the speed?

Stuff like that?

I got a step further today. I was able to successfully download a 7 MByte pdf file. However, one strange thing I really didn't understand. During the download, the log recorded: 421 No-transfer-time exceeded. Closing control connection But the download continued on successfully to its completion. He...

My server is running DynDNS, which updates the hostname with the lastest external IP address. That part seems to be working because I can browse the entire site and create and delete folders. I will try to open the recommended port range both on my server's firewall software. Hopefully I can find ou...

Try enabling the Network Address Translation (NAT) function on your router, instead of IP forwarding. Also, Filezilla FAQ recommends the TCP port range for Passive mode to be 5000 - 5100, not 50000 to 51000. I'm not sure if that was just a typo in your post or not. Once you enable the NAT function a...

Error 426

Ok. I will post some logs as soon as I can. I have a strong suspicion that my Norton Internet Security package is causing the problem, even though it still occurs if I disable the firewall. I am currently trying to figure out how to configure some port settings on the firewall manually. The other th...

If you are behind a router, you shoud probably enable the Network Address Translation (NAT) function. This allows the router to read the global IP address given to you by your ISP and "translate" it to your computer's local network IP address. Once you have done this, you should be able to...

Error 426

I have been searching around this forum for anyone else who is experiencing the same problem I am having. My Filezilla server is running on a MS Server 2003. It is behind a NAT enabled router. I can access my FTP site and browse all the folders, but when I try to download I often get an ERROR 426 - ...
