network drive

Trying to set up user accounts to include network drives.
On the local, need not only access to the C drive, but an (H) Microsoft network drive.
Each user should be able to upload from their own network account drive to the server.
(And their C drive too, of course.)
How can I do that?

connection aborted by host software

"An established connection was aborted by the software in your host machine." I know I've solved this once before, but haven't used ftp in a while. I am able to connect using a client program or in a command window (Microsoft ftp). I have contacted support for a newly purchased client program, but t...

BTW: RE: size of the custom port range? How big does it need to be? Is it bigger if I need to support lots of traffic and smaller if it's available to a limited group for limited purposes? Or is there something else in the equation for optimum size?

Thanks. That really helped me to check see if I am doing the right thing. I do have a DynDNS.org account and am using one of their domain names. Only thing I changed in current set-up so that mine is like yours was to reduce the custom port range from the default. I have added that range to port for...

Downloading from a Web Page

Well ... as a newbie, I simply tried to put an anchor in a web page to initiate ftp downloading. Things like ftp:// and ftp. instead of http:// for the address. But so far, that hasn't worked. (Maybe it's the same problem as not being able to use the username:password@host in the browser or Explorer...

This is extra software; but I've been looking for simple drop&drag, fast, secure, etc. (would definitely like to use browser / explorer too) ... you might want to take a look at WinSCP.

Picked up an example from another thread (of course it's always easy once you know how) and I am getting the external IP address showing in the interface log where it was showing an internal address before. But that hasn't effected the result. Other than the change of address in the log, things are ...

That's pretty cool. I'll keep an eye on it. The sections I need on FileZilla configuration aren't in yet; but I'm sure I can benefit from reading the rest. It gives me some hope I won't have to flog around like a dying fish for the rest of my life whenever dealing with networks. It looks very Wikipe...

Actually, I'd still like to know about setting the external IP address in the server. I can see that even the new version client has an option for using it. I found it set; maybe it's a bug that it works ! (or .... somewhere ... maybe it knows I'm on the same computer)

Success .... I just downloaded and ran the client from the beta 3 release: no changes to the server. I'm connected.

FileZilla Documentation

I clicked on the Documentation link in the upper-left of this page, but the screen shots, options shown for configuration are not the same as in my installed version of FileZilla.

a) Incorrect server configuration, you need to tell it your external IP address b) Some router and/or firewall trying to be smart and tampering with the reply to the PASV command. Fails miserably ofc. OK. I've tried to tell the server my external IP adress, but it didn't solve the problem. I suspec...

Windows Security

The only logged intrusion I've had was somebody's attempt to log in as admin ... failed 5 times and the ban went into effect. Then somebody tells me that open FTP ports are a favorite way to introduce viruses, etc.; then a bunch of screwy things happened that shut down the Windows firewall and got m...
