Re: A Segmented Downloads workaround...

You are dealing with a political issue. Technological workarounds are no solution to political issues. What the hell are you on about??? You're refusing to implement a much requested option, that is present in other FTP clients... That, yes, has it's issues, but is not an issue in situations where ...

FATAL ERROR: Network error: Permission denied ... No retry delays!!!

When enabling, disabling, my VPN, or switching VPN servers, the connection drops out as expected, but FileZilla goes crazy and rapidly pukes all/most of active/queued transfers into "Failed transfers". It does not obey any delay between retries! This used to work, but a few months ago, it ...

Re: A Segmented Downloads workaround...

You didn't answer the relevant question: What's your your latency to the server during a transfer? I thought you were asking this of Robena. You didn't answer the relevant question: What are the full technical details of the reasoning behind not implementing Segmented Downloads when so many other c...

Re: A Segmented Downloads workaround...

You might need to tune your advertised receive window. How large is your latency to the server during transfer? You guys keep on about changing the settings of our clients or the server, but for many/most of us the problems lie between us and our servers and we have zero control over ISPs, networks...

A Segmented Downloads workaround...

OK, Filezilla IS the best FTP client out there, it works very well, a near perfect user-interface, etc... But it doesn't do segmented transfers of big files (due mostly to a lack of empathy, no other detailed reasons given)... BUT it does do Simultaneous Transfers, up to 10 different files at once.....

Re: Is FileZilla Client using Segmented Uploads?

The third trick is to use say WinSCP to run a remote command on a big file you want to transfer down at full speed, to rar/split it in to chunks, perhaps of 20mb each, and then use FileZilla to transfer all the chunks down, making use of the "Maximum Simultaneous Transfers" option set to s...

Re: Segmented Downloads - Any Plans?

Net neutrality, all packets should be treated equally; things like throttling or treating certain types of traffic special just violate it. Net neutrality would be a blessing for the Internet and its users, but corporate lobby groups are preventing it in the interest of short-sighted profit. I thin...

Re: FTP = Frustrating Trickle Protocol...

FTP is very fast if used in a proper network. If your network isn't proper, fix that first. Which is possible to do in a corporate environment... But for those that use FTP over the internet, this is a different story. I'm talking about when we don't have any say, what-so-ever, about the networks b...

FTP = Frustrating Trickle Protocol...

What's the future of the FTP? Are there any ideas or moves to make any changes to the protocol to make it more efficient? As the end-user connections speeds are getting faster and faster each day, and files are getting much bigger too, the bottlenecks are now moving away from their modem speed to on...

Re: Segmented Downloads - Any Plans?

Congestion = Line is full. If you achieve higher speeds with segmented downloads, someone else will get slower speeds. Overall speed across all users always stays the same. If all use segmented downloads, all will at best have the same speed as before, but in reality fewer due to the added overhead...

Re: Segmented Downloads - Any Plans?

Ultimately if everyone would use segmented transfers, the situation would be exactly the same as before if not worse. Hardly anyone uses FTP in the grand scheme of things... Most of the world's traffic uses is HTTP, YouTube and bittorrent... Not FTP. If you implemented segmented transfers in Filezi...

Re: Segmented Downloads - Any Plans?

In its default configuration, FileZilla manages around 3.6 MiB/s at a latency of one full second. Is your desired bandwidth delay product larger than 4194304 bytes? How do you measure it? What would be your throughput if you downloaded 10 files at once over that connection? (What was you internet c...

Re: Segmented Downloads - Any Plans?

If the network is congested, how does using multiple parallel transfers make the congestion go away? What if the route has high latency (which probably is a symptom of congestion too), like i have being on the other side of the world from my server. I'm assuming that transferring data via FTP invol...
