Re: Missing Features

It's a bot. The default CAPTCHA on phpBB isn't that effective, so it's been cracked by bots.

I suppose they could implement reCAPTCHA or ASIRRA, but that would take some effort.

Re: FileZilla 3 development diary

Ever tried OS X? It has built-in virtualization and emulation. Run PPC binaries on Intel Macs or run binaries for OS 9 on OS X (earlier PPC versions at least, not supported anymore afaik). Microsoft could easily do the same with the next Windows version. A fully backwards compatible VM layer for ol...

Re: FileZilla 3 development diary

Not in a vendor locked-in company. Not my point. Virtualization on the desktop on a corporate scale is a nightmare. It doesn't matter if it's Citrix, Xen, VMware, Virtual Server, or some ridiculous homebrew KVM. I've seen it done about 10 times over 8 different companies or so. The users always hat...

Re: FileZilla 3 development diary

What are the problems you are having with the windows filesystem? Open a file with FILE_SHARE_DELETE. Delete the file and then try to open another file with the same name. Fails. Fail reappears in explorer. Any attempt to access it or delete it freezes explorer for 30 seconds or more. Even though t...

Re: Do I Need Windows or Linux Filezilla?

You want Windows FileZilla_3.1.6_win32-setup.exe.

You are correct that the Linux version is for people who use Linux on their home computer. An FTP client is capable of working with whatever OS is on the other end provided both ends are using proper FTP.

Re: question on licensing

Yes, you can distribute the client to your entire network. There is no fee for the software. FileZilla is published under the GNU General Public License v2 (GPL). From an IT perspective, there is no licensing fee, no distribution fee, and you have complete access to the source code (which is general...

Re: Filezilla does not remember my host name

Quick Connect is for connecting to a server without saving it in the Site Manager.

Open Site Manager, select the server you want to connect to and hit "Connect".

Reconnect works here because FileZilla remembers the details of the last session whether it was through Site Manager or Quick Connect.

Re: Network conf wizard fails, but FZ works (with one prob.)

It shouldn't.

If you find a server where you're unable to retrieve a directory listing, this is the most likely problem.

That happened to me when my NAT router wasn't forwarding the local port range for active transfers. You may experience some problems on some servers, but not all.

Re: Slow download - with 10mb /10mb fiber - Not fios

If it's not their server, not their network, and not your system, then it's got to be your network because you've already eliminated everything else that it could be. The easiest way to test that is to remove the network firewall and to test from there. Is it just the one FTP site? Is it HTTP traffi...

Re: Ban IP after X failed attemps...

I guess I don't see how learning the username is any less difficult than learning the password. The username is just as secret as the password is if you're doing things right. The only major difference is that the username is often subject to dictionary attack, usernames are often case-insensitive, ...

Re: Fonts and visibility

It's not Ubuntu 8.1. It's Ubuntu 8.10. Version numbers are not decimal numbers. For Ubuntu, they choose to make their version numbers for releases the year and month of the release date. So 8.10 was released in October of 2008. The next release is due in April of 2009, and will therefore be 9.04. Yo...

Re: Ban IP after X failed attemps...

Autoban is not the best feature to use for this. It doesn't significantly add to site protection your site unless you're using very poor or guessable usernames, and can allow your FTP site to be DOS'ed. I know botg is planning to remove the autoban feature in future editions of FileZilla Server. Sea...
