To resolve this problem,

use another server (like zFTPServer) or
use the patched version from TommiWu (this version uses local encoding by default)

The service name is "Filezilla Server", put it in quotes because of the space character.

If SmartFTP cannot connect, there is a 'fallback' option.
If Passive mode does not work, switch to Active mode and vice versa.

FileZilla has no such option (yet?).

These programs simulate a local drive and 'translate' your actions to FTP commands and vice versa. If you get problems or not, depends on the FTP server software used. I said 'Expect a lot of problems', not 'You will run into problems'. It is possible that it will run perfectly on your machine. The ...

Novell Netdrive is another program allowing this. But, as botg already stated, FTP protocol has not been designed for such operation. Expect a lot of problems.

If your WAN IP is static, enter it in Passive mode settings and use it. If it's dynamic, the 'Retrieve external IP' option is good choice.

Just tested myself... implicit SSL Generated cert - OK (1024 bit) Tried to connect with Filezilla - after accepting the certificate I got the error Nusz already posted. Used SmartFTP - everything went fine. @Nusz I've seen your post over at zFTPServer forums. I would like to wait for Nicklas to repo...

I guess the TYPE A and TYPE I are part of the 'Keep alive' system. They have nothing to do with the transfer in progress. However, I found out that in some situations the 'Keep alive' system sends TYPE A when it shouldn't. Example: Starting a binary transfer. TYPE I has been sent, but before the act...

It's very much the Passive mode settings. The IP address returned is a LAN address (It should be the external address of the server).

This issue has been discussed already. Filezilla Server does not store your password, it stores the MD5 hash of your password. The length of the hash is 32 bytes. That is what you see in the display. Your password works. FZ Server recomputes the hash when you connect, and compares the two hashes to ...

The problem with Serv-U is that it is commonly abused by hackers. I had several Antivirus software detecting Serv-U as 'Trojan'

Try Filezilla Server, or, if you need more features, zFTPServer.

Passive FTP and FTP over SSL have nothing to do with each other.

But without Passive mode FTP you could get problems as Active FTP is not Firewall friendly.
