Well it seems either 'mekeled' is no valid FTP server or some firewall is blocking communication.

No way to do this with the standard FTP protocol.

There are some servers capable to do this, however, it is in no way standardized.

Filezilla 0.9.23 still supports the OPTS UTF8 OFF command. For the meantime, incompatible clients should use this command to re-enable the old behavior. Please be advised that botg will remove this command in future versions of Filezilla Server, it is only in for compatibility and grants you some ti...

Short answer: No. No, not officially. You can't support old operating systems forever. Most programs drop support for M$ operating systems when M$ does. And M$ does only support Win2000 or better. A word of warning: M$ does no more offer updates and security patches for 9x systems, you are at great ...

I fear without full logs of the communication (attempt) it would be just guesswork. Please provide some logs.

There is no (standard) way of keeping the uploaded files' time with FTP. Some servers support a modified MFMT command to achieve that.

Code: Select all

MDTM YYYYMMDDHHMMSS filename
But you need a server and a client supporting this. I guess Filezilla won't as it's non-standard.

Re: Understanding the basics of FTP for beginners

Welcome to the forum! What I think I understand is: -"servers" are the remote location that holds the files that are available for up and download. -"Clients" are the people or computers that have access to the server, for example myself and my friend who are trying to exchange flies with each other...

The ftp.exe from M$ is translating DOS commands to FTP commands and vice versa. But AFAIK it doesn't support PASV mode (don't know about the Vista one though).

Copying Filezilla.xml won't work I guess, as Filezilla 3 is a complete rewrite. Maybe botg only bothered about the latest FZ2 version when he wrote the import feature, which is 2.2.32 . You could try updating to 2.2.32 first before attempting the import to v3 . If that doesn't help, then I'm sorry I...

Active mode works with ports 21 (command channel) and 20 (data channel) only. But it is not very client friendly, passive mode would be far better. I think fow low FTP traffic, 25 data ports should be enough.

Do you mean the list of sites in the sitemanager? That data will be imported (only host, port, username, password).

If you, however, mean the quickconnect list of Filezilla, that list will not be imported at all I fear.
