Re: Add user using a file

All data is stored inside FileZilla Server.xml that's located in the FZ Server program directory. You can edit that file to your liking and then call

"FileZilla Server.exe" /reload-config

to re-read it and apply the changes to a running server instance. Alternately, simple restart the server service (restarting the admin interface doesn't do any good, btw.).

Re: How to do multiple selection of folders to add to the folder list of user account

Add a few directories using the GUI. Then, take a look at "FileZilla Server.xml". Once you learn how the <Permission Dir="dirname"></permission> blocks work, you can easily duplicate them to the desired directory names.

Executing

"FileZilla Server.exe" /reload-config

will then load your changed XML file.

Need Help Moving FileZilla Server

Howdy,

I have a client that is running FileZilla Server version 0.9.41 beta and they are running it on a 10 year old Pentium 4 PC. It is passed time for this server to be upgraded. How can I move this to a new box (and a new version of FileZilla) while keeping all of the users, groups, and settings in place?

I found a post from 2009 that said I just need to move the filezilla-server.xml to the new box and restart the FTP service and run a "filezilla server.exe" /reload-config....is this still the valid way of moving a server to new hardware? and will my settings from this extremely old beta version work with the newest version?

Thanks in advance

Programmatically Create User Account

I saw a few documentation / conversation about how to create User Account programmatically by editing the FileZilla Server.xml file.

I did this along with issuing th e/reload-config. Everything works find except the password is invalid. I use MD5 hashing example and it looks correct. BUt I noticed that in the new version of FZS there is a "Salt" field in the user element.

What is this "Salt" and how do I populate it? Is it still possible to programmatically create a user account programmatically? Is there an API for C#?

Re: Cant administer filezilla - Windows 10 Pro rtm 10240

Yes, there could be a problem here. TS (Terminal Services) redirect a good portion of the OS to the connecting OS, that's why it only works on Windows . The problem is if the TS also redirect the network stack, then localhost, 127.0.0.0/8 and [::1] might redirect to the connecting machine instead of the target one. That edge case would indeed make saving admin settings impossible, as the FZ Server service would see a translated LAN/WAN IP instead of localhost. XML editing works but is hardly comfortable. Other methods like VNC do not have that problem.

Might as well install the server locally and produce an XML that you can then upload to the target machine. Finally, issue "FileZilla Server.exe /reload-config" to load the new XML.

Re: How do configure filezilla server by scripting or programming?

You need to edit the "FileZilla Server.xml" file directly and then call the

"FileZilla Server.exe" /reload-config

command line. AFAIK the service-interface communication protocol isn't documented at all.

It's not supposed to do that and I cannot reproduce it either. Do you have more information on this?
Sorry, that was a bit vague.

On my develop machine (Windows 7) with FileZilla Server 0.9.46 installed on port 14242 as a service:
When my college copied a large file to my machine using FTP, and I did a /reload-config, the FTP transfer was aborted. I have heard that we have seen that in production too, but I don't have the version details
Would it be possible to rename it to make it more clear that it's for FileZilla Server instead of FileZilla?
It is not possible to rename a NuGet package. Besides that, I think it is 100% clear what the package does from the name and description.
I'm surprised you managed to figure out the overly arcane protocol.
I've done a lot of similar implementations like Z-modem protocol, and obscure protocols to various devices. I guess I'm as arcane as the protocol...

It is available as a nuget package for Visual Studio https://www.nuget.org/packages/Miracle.FileZilla.Api/
Source/documentation is available on: https://github.com/PolarbearDK/Miracle.FileZilla.Api
Cool. Would it be possible to rename it to make it more clear that it's for FileZilla Server instead of FileZilla? E.g. Miracle.FileZillaServer.Api

Announcement: .NET API for automated creation of Users

We needed to automate the creation of FileZilla users/groups.
We looked at modifying FileZilla Server.xml directly, but rejected the idea because /reload-config kicks all active connections.

What we really needed was an API to FileZilla, but we could'nt find one.
So I wrote an API that mimics the FileZilla Server Interface using .NET.

It is available as a nuget package for Visual Studio https://www.nuget.org/packages/Miracle.FileZilla.Api/
Source/documentation is available on: https://github.com/PolarbearDK/Miracle.FileZilla.Api

Re: Automated install

Modify the "FileZilla Server.xml" file directly and call "FileZilla Server.exe /reload-config" afterwards.

Re: Script to Create Users

This thread is about the server, I presume?

The FileZilla Server.xml file holds all settings and has a well defined format. So you can just modify that file or create a new one and call

''FileZilla Server.exe'' /reload-config

afterwards.

As for example scripts, you can read this thread: http://forum.filezilla-project.org/view ... f=6&t=5310

Re: Command line application to create user accounts

You can directly edit FileZilla Server.xml, e.g. via some script you need to write yourself and afterwards simply call "FileZilla Server.exe" /reload-config

However, using /reload-config appears to break existing connections, even though I have only added new users to the config XML.
According tho the developer, using /reload-config does not interrupt anything.

Reload config without breaking existing connections?

I want to be able to add new users to the FTP server without breaking existing FTP connections (existing users who are connected to the server should not get disconnected!).

However, using /reload-config appears to break existing connections, even though I have only added new users to the config XML.

Is there a way to add new users without breaking existing FTP connections?

If there is not, then I need something like /reload-users which will only reload new users that has been added to the XML without breaking existing connections. If someone with knowledge of the source code is able to implement this for me a.s.a.p. (you can get paid) then please contact me privately.

Thanks

Re: Setup Accounts Via Command Line

Add/Delete ftp users via command line.
Set quota limits for added users either on user creation or modify via the command line
Not possible via commandline. What you can do is modifying the FileZilla Server.xml directly and calling FileZilla Server.exe with the /reload-config swich afterwards.

Code: Select all

"FileZilla Server.exe" /reload-config
Have the data stored on another windows server which is accessed via a network drive.
This is possible, but please read the following sticky topic: http://forum.filezilla-project.org/view ... f=6&t=9200.
