downloading FILEZILLA

#1 Post by AnnPalmer1st » 2015-03-04 19:17

I am trying to download FileVilla but it seems to have to go through some sales website - can it be dowloaded directly from FileVilla, each time I try, I can't get it downloaded. Also, will it work on AOL?

Note the spelling, it's FileZilla. No V in it.

There's no sale website, FileZilla cannot be bought.

You can always download FileZilla free of charge from https://filezilla-project.org/download.php

It's very strange. After 17 attempts I managed to download the 6MB file that you say it should always let you download.

All of the past files i've downloaded from following the instructions on your website and clicking the download link have given me a 733KB .exe program with the SF logo. Finally, on the 17th attempt, the SourceForge download gave me the 6MB .exe with the FileZilla logo which was the correct one.

All the other files have given me warnings about being unsafe by Windows 8.1, Kaspersky and Google Chrome. Only the one 6MB file that i've now just managed to download was classed as safe and appears legitimate.

Ah yes, the mess that once was Sourceforge. Since Dice bought them it's going downhill.

My personal choices:
1. Blocking Javascript on Sourceforge.net and all associated sites. They need Javascript to deliver the adware wrapper, at least for now.
2. Blocking automatic redirections - gives you infinite time to press the 'Direct Download' link. ;)
