Unable to access filezilla-project.org

#1 Post by Bobzbobz1 » 2022-12-06 12:25

Hello

All of a sudden we can no longer access https://filezilla-project.org from work. Are we on some block list?
The page simply times out (ERR_CONNECTION_TIMED_OUT).
The responsible person of our DNS filter says that we have no block rules regarding filezilla.

Let me know what information you need to check.

Regards,
Soren

Your work's IP address first and foremost.

Turns out you have some third-party software installed in your work environment that abuses the filezilla-project.org infrstructure. Note that the services running on filezilla-project.org are not intended to be used by automated deployement software. If you want to automatically deploy FileZilla in your network, you need to host the files on your own infrastructure as well.

Can you see more information about this third party software?

We are using an internal server for software management (Microsoft SCCM equivalent), but all installation files are stored locally.

From what I can tell it's a snake-oil product from Finland. Unrestrained, these snake oil products would consume all our bandwidth.

Are you able to see the name of the software or company?
You can just PM me if you dont wish to advertise/name it here in the forums.
Then we will investigate.

We are an educational institution, so we have a lot of BYOD on location.

May I recommend using IPv6 with device-stable addresses? That way individual misbehaving devices can be easily identified.
