15th April 2024 Update causes problems

#1 Post by Loweswatercam » 2024-04-30 14:43

I have been adding files to my website for two years by simply click and drop into the remote site location and then re-naming (moving) them into htdocs file. This has been an instant operation until this week when the transfer seems to demand indexing of the big htdocs file before allowing the transfer. This file is now so big that it cannot seemingly be indexed before the server times out.

What is it about this 15th April update that has blocked my normal, simple file transfer.

I'm importing html and jpeg files from Windows 11 (64 bit) via FileZilla 3.67.0 to my Fasthost based website.

FileZilla does not process file contents in any way, with the sole exception being line ending conversion if you run FileZilla on a non-Windows system. Any indexing that happens on the server you are using is something specific to that server. Please contact your server administrator or server hosting provider for further assistance.

If by "indexing" means listing the contents, just raise the default 20 seconds in the FileZilla settings to something higher, say, 60 seconds. The update is mere coincidence in this case.

Received the foillowing messages within FileZilla . . . .

Status: Logged in
Status: Starting upload of C:\Users\Hiley\Desktop\Web Drafts\24042205ps.jpg
Status: Retrieving directory listing of "/htdocs"...
Command: TYPE I
Response: 200 Binary transfer mode active.
Command: PASV
Response: 227 Entering Passive Mode (213,171,193,5,202,254).
Command: MLSD
Response: 150 Opening data connection.
Error: Connection timed out after 60 seconds of inactivity
Error: File transfer failed
Status: Disconnected from server

I take it that the default option is already 60 seconds.

Could you please use our test site https://ftptest.net to test the server?

Hi Boco,

The test failed as follows:

"Test log"
Status: Resolving address of fasthosts.co.uk
Status: Connecting to 213.171.195.48
Error: Connection attempt timed out
Results
Error: Connection attempt timed out
Timeouts are usually caused by some router and/or firewall that is interrupting the connection.
Try uninstalling all firewalls and plug your computer directly into your modem, thus bypassing the router.

My computer is directly wired to my modem so that's not the problem.
Is the firewall likely to be on my PC or has the test failed due to a timeout at their end ?

Roger

Can I download a previous version of FileZilla to check whether that solves the problem ?

According to the test log, there is no server at the address and port you entered, or it is down.
Can I download a previous version of FileZilla to check whether that solves the problem ?
Downgrading is not a supported use case and might corrupt settings. Make a backup of your settings directory.
