Oh. My. God.
I just "lost" 50+ passwords without a proper warning. I'm so Lucky to have accidentally backupped my passwords just before I did something I never ever did before: quickconnect.
I'm using FileZilla 3.9.0.5. Does a new version fix this?

Independent of the dialog window (personally I do have the strong opinion that dialog should be shown at the first start to undermine its global meaning), doesn't it feel nice to have a backup? You should do backups regularly and by intent (not only by accident). Everyone, please do that, sh*t happens all the time.

I just lost 30-or-so passwords to this "feature." It's not a particularly painful loss for me, but it was confusing as all crap when it happened. I do read alerts and I don't believe that dialog communicates the actual effects. A small amount of usability knowledge can go a long way.
For example what if, for example, that feature deleted all of your saved passwords in all applications? It did exactly what it said it did, but you would probably be upset. The reason being is context. You assume that because you are using the Filezilla application, it will only affect Filezilla, and your expectations would be broken.
In this case, the context for all of us seems to be the quick connect feature. The dialog implies, through context, that it only applies to QuickConnect.
I agree with both Boco and the others who say that the dialog either needs to go, or it needs to be displayed in appropriate context.
As it stands, it is an (unintentionally) malicious, user-unfriendly feature--a trap. Good software should not "trap" users like this.

You must uncheck "Do not save passwords" in Settings - Interface, first.

this sucks bigtime!
i've lost all my 300+ passwords, many thanks dude
i've always updated to the latest version clicking next, next, next and now, i've lost all my passwords
how in earth would someone ever program a routine which deletes ALL THE PASSWORDS AT ONCE without the user clicking "DELETE ALL PASSWORDS" and confirming "ARE YOU SURE, THIS WILL DELETE ALL PASSWORDS"!!??
even juniors at our IT firm wouldn't do such a thing

after 20 or so updates of Filezilla, always needing to just click next next next i dare you to guess how many people keep on reading all the screens.
point is you delete passwords without notification or confirmation

Well, installation/update paths can change anytime, that's true for every software. It's an eternal construction site.

Hey,
I have the same Problem, nearly 100 passwords are gone and it's all because of the quick-connect issue.
Also, the GUI of the filezille is completely broken under Ubuntu + KDE (updates on the GUI are only done when a window is moved).
I cannot believe that this is an intended behavior, without any warning or real confirmation. A small window with a question is NOT enough here, and the devs of FZ should know that. Sorry guys but this is so lame, never will anyone I know use FZ anymore. Thanks guys for making us change all of our passwords now. This behavior is so stupid, I'd fire anyone immediately just for mentioning such an idea (and YES i am the boss of a medium business and we are developing software just like you guys).
Remove this function, otherwise no one is going to use FZ anymore when people find out what can happen with just one click!
I am not angry because of the lost passwords, but because everyone on the dev team knows that they just f***ing blew it but they are just to arrogant to confirm it. I cannot believe how dramatically the quality of FZ has been turned down on FZ. Never again, never EVER again guys...!

Where's the dev team you all speak of? FileZilla doesn't have any. Single developer, one. So it's either Yes or No. There's no second opinion.

Look at this:
Code: Select all
if (COptions::Get()->GetOptionVal(OPTION_DEFAULT_KIOSKMODE) == 0 && COptions::Get()->GetOptionVal(OPTION_PROMPTPASSWORDSAVE) != 0 && !CSiteManager::HasSites()) {
CAskSavePasswordDialog dlg;
if (dlg.Create(parent)) {
ret = dlg.ShowModal() == wxID_OK;
if (ret) {
if (xrc_call(dlg, "ID_REMEMBER_NO", &wxRadioButton::GetValue)) {
COptions::Get()->SetOption(OPTION_DEFAULT_KIOSKMODE, 1);
}
COptions::Get()->SetOption(OPTION_PROMPTPASSWORDSAVE, 0);
}
}
}
else
COptions::Get()->SetOption(OPTION_PROMPTPASSWORDSAVE, 0);
That's from the source code of FileZilla. As you can easily see, the ask save password dialog isn't even shown if there are already sites in the Site Manager.
Needless to say, FileZilla just runs fine when I try it on a standard Kubuntu.

This just happened to me with 3.9.0.5 and I had lots of sites in my site manager
Edit: Nevermind, just realized how far behind I am and that it was patched in 3.10.
