425 Can't open data connection.

#1 Post by luccolo » 2009-04-02 16:43

Hi everyone,

I have just upgraded FileZilla Client to the latest version (FileZilla Client 3.2.3.1) from the previous one, and now I have no more connection to my other PC (connected via ethernet cable).

What happened?

Furthermore, I lost the previous clien file and I did not find it on the FZ webpages, so I can't restore the connection.

Thanks for your kind help.

This is mostly caused by a firewall not correctly recognizing that the Filezilla executable has changed. You need to check and maybe recreate the firewall rules.

Thank you for your kind answer, Boco, but I checked my firewalls and nothing wrong with them...

Be sure to correctly forward the ports on the NAT(router) you are using if you are using one.

thanks for your hint; I'm using a router (WAG) to connect via ethernet cables my 2 PC's, but the only use I do of FileZilla is to transfer files from one to the other.
Have I to set anything in my router? (Norton firewall has already been set properly).

Disable Norton and try again.

Thank Boco, you was right: the guilty is Norton firewall in the PC with the FileZilla Server (I have Norton on both PC's, and if I disable ONLY Norton firewall on the PC with the Filezilla server, everything is okay).

Now the question is: how may I solve this riddle? I've tried to allow full permission in Norton firewall to the following files:
FileZilla Server.exe
Filezilla Server interface.exe

but the problem is still alive

Is there anything else that I have to set in the firewall?

I would like to remember that I use FileZilla only for exchanging files between my PC's, and I do not do any upload via Internet with it.

Thanks for any hints ....

Look into the settings and see if you can forward ports for the firewall, if so forward the ports that FileZilla is using. I would say ditch Norton Firewall though, Comodo is a free firewall and it is just as good, if not better.

Thanks, now it is working, but the transfer speed is now very slow (about 800KB/sec instead of 10 MB/sec). What could it be happen?

Firewalls inspect the traffic running through (packet inspection, SPI). That can reduce speed, extremely in some cases.

Thanks Boco, but I would be happy if this happened only in "some cases". Unfortunately it happens every time, and the speed (in particular with large video files) is steady at 780-800 kb/sec.

Do have I to check anything?

"Some cases" in the sense of for "some users".

Another thing, you are mixing kb and KB. Please use B for bytes and b for bits.

Sorry, my mistake: I meant KB/sec.
Anyway, the problem is still present: sometimes everything goes right (10M. per sec.), but sometimes I have slow bitrate: nothing more than 800KB/sec, and I don't know why.
