.css Files Won't Open in Filezilla...OK in Windows
I'm really new to Filezilla but all was working well until yesterday when I updated my style.css file.
I normally open files in NotePad. The icon for all .css files had a little 'gear' on them. (not sure why) Anyway, for some strange reason, when I saved my file yesterday, all the 'gears' were gone (on all .css files) and now I can't open the files in Filezilla. (getting the error message that no program is associated with file) I 'can' open them in Windows. (use Vista) I've right-clicked and associated the files with NotePad (in Windows)....do I need to do this in Filezilla?
Question #1: What could have caused this and how do I fix it?
Question #2: Is it safe to continue working on those files and download to my server...eventho the files won't open in Filezilla?
Question #3: Does it matter that Filezilla can't open them?
Thanks so much. I'd appreciate any advice you can give.
P.S. I can't even edit the .css files in Filezilla. Don't know if you needed to know that.

Re: .css Files Won't Open in Filezilla...OK in Windows
Filzezilla isn't the program openning them, its using a different program, by the sounds of things its using textmate, or another web coding package. Should be safe, and downloading another web code editor may well be the way forwards, if money is not an issue I recommend Dreamweaver, if money is a problem then textmate or bbcode editor are both highly recommended.
Hope this helps.

Re: .css Files Won't Open in Filezilla...OK in Windows
Thanks for replying.
Well, money is an issue. But I do have PSPad. Do you think I should start opening these files with that instead of NotePad?
And if I'm understanding you correctly, you're saying it 'is' OK to upload the files to my server...eventho they won't open?
Thanks again.
Forgot to mention...I use Firebug to make changes on my site, then copy and paste back into my .css file. Mean anything?

Re: .css Files Won't Open in Filezilla...OK in Windows
The reason they won't open is because you haven't got a program that will open them, not that they can't be opened? right?
If so then they should be fine to upload, if they don't work its easily noticeable since the website will look rather bland and horrible, if they do work then theres no problem.
Also use whichever program your most comfortable with.

That's the totally confusing part. They 'do' open in Notepad when I double click them in my documents folder....just not in Filezilla. ??

Filezilla is not a editting program, also it depends on the properties you have set for the default editor. Right click on a file go to properties and check the default program

Default program is NotePad.
Thanks for putting up with me, Brecon...I'm still learning all this website/server/cubecart stuff.

Re: .css Files Won't Open in Filezilla...OK in Windows
Well, not yet.
I just downloaded the newer version of Filezilla thinking maybe that would have an effect. It sure did...I got an error message saying:
Installer Integrity check has failed. Common causes include incomplete download and damaged media. Contact installer and obtain new copy.

Off I go to figure out a new problem!

Basically you didnt let it fully download or it didnt download completely before installing or the installation was not completed successfully, power outage, computer switch off.

Re: .css Files Won't Open in Filezilla...OK in Windows
I've just decided to keep my old version. It's working fine.
As for the files...I still can't open them in Filezilla, but I decided to just give it a try and upload anyway. It worked.
Things are going pretty good so far. Again, thanks for your help.

Re: .css Files Won't Open in Filezilla...OK in Windows
I can't say the problem of the files not opening in Filezilla is solved. But I can successfully upload the files to my server and the changes 'are' taking place.
So I'm really not sure what' happening. I haven't successfully downloaded the newer 3.2.6 version but that's what it's reading in the 'about' file in my Filezilla program. ?? I continue to get that same error message.
