Broken Images once Posted to FileZilla

#1 Post by duhaylonsod » 2009-07-08 02:35

Need help!
My webpage is fine prior to uploading to Filezilla. Once uploaded, all images become broken. When I go back and check my webpage (on my c drive), everything - text, images, etc. are ok. It's only when I upload my images to the ftp site, that it becomes broken. I tried transfer in Auto, ASCII and Binary. Note my file is saved (on my c drive as .html and uploaded as .html also).

Website software: My Free Website Builder
FTP Site: FileZilla
Windows OS: Vista

Thank you...

We are not providing any hosting services. You didn't upload files to FileZilla, but using FileZilla.
all images become broken
Define broken.

Wait there my free website builder allows FTP?

I didnt think they did, if thats the case then that would be the problem. If not then please give a url or hyperlink to the problem explaining in more detail.

Broken defined: when viewing the uploaded webpage (http://...) all my images do not appear (has a small broken icon on the top left of where the image was supposed to be. The text is ok and the template is also ok. It's only the images within the webpage's template that is not showing up.

here's the url: http://www.thevoiceofkapolei.com/eBooks ... ouEMM.html

Filenames are case sensitive, could that be the reason?

I've been copying and pasting; thus, not retyping anything. I purposely do that to ensure I won't be affected by case sensitive issues.

That page doesn't exist.

So..
I took this one:

Code: Select all

http://www.thevoiceofkapolei.com/eBooks/EMM/downloadThankYou.html
and the images are messed up on it... the link of one of those images:
thevoiceofkapolei.com/eBooks/images/emm-header.jpg

Hmm.. there is no directory called 'images' in the eBooks directory.

I had the same problem. It wasn't my coding or the naming of the files. It wasn't coming from my computer at all. I have used filezilla before with great success. I think the problem came when the most recent update came in. I noticed after the transfer of files the sizes did not match. I check the site and the images were missing. When I tried a different ftp everything worked great.

So I am thinking this issue is with the latest update. the last time I used filezilla was June 26, 2009 and it worked just fine.

Have there been any other posts about file corruption during transfer?

It's only the images within the webpage's template that is not showing up.
http://www.thevoiceofkapolei.com/eBooks ... header.jpg - 4o4
http://www.thevoiceofkapolei.com/eBooks/ - There's no images directory. As a side note, you should disable directory indexes on the server if you can. Plus, your PDF is in no way secure.

I noticed after the transfer of files the sizes did not match.
You didn't accidentally transfer them as ASCII, did you? The symptoms described do match exactly. Images are Binary transfers.

I've been using FileZilla now for 4 years plus and never had a problem. I'm not sure exactly what the problem is; however, I did do an upgrade about a week ago. I'm not saying that's the problem...just want to go through in all the nuances.

I do apologize for various issues on the site. I've been troubleshooting the problem now for 3 days; thus, I'm sure things changed up a bit.

As of now, the problem (broken images) still exists...If there are any specific steps that I should be doing, please let me know. It could be something simple or very complex. I'm all ears...

ok, here's more info.

- while in FileZilla, I can (open) my webpage and view with no problem (looking at the left side of the window - my c drive)

- I would then upload the file (html) to the ftp site. At this point, I would "open" the file (on the remote side) and all images (.jpg and .gif) are broken

- I would then rename the file (add a 1 or 2 to the filename) and download to the exact location on my c drive. Lo and behold, everything is fine...

Could it be a problem with my FileZilla settings?

note: I did go to the "help" tab and see if there are any patches. I clicked on updates and a reply came back saying that I had the most updated version.

hope this helps...

I've tried transferring in Auto, ASCII and Binary - all the same result.

What is the webroot of your web site? http://www.thevoiceofkapolei.com/eBooks/ ? There is no index document on this site, thus the naked directory listing is shown.
As directory indexes are enabled, everyone can access any file.
Next: There's no images directory, either. No images will show.

It looks that whereever you upload the files to, it's not the correct place.

Well DUH! I went back and looked at transfer type and ascii was selected. I didn't select this or change anything, I just assumed it would work like it did before. No one else uses this computer. That explains everything and is a relief because I didn't really want to go out and look for another ftp program. I like filezilla a lot and am used to it.

I am not the most technical but if I know what to look for I can make things happen. What bugs me is when I asked the "tech" folks at go daddy they could not give me an answer even when I described the file size difference. Maybe I should get a job there seeing as I am now an expert!

I tested it and it works just fine. Thanks so much, I have learned something today! Always double check the settings and never assume they are where you left them. Must be a ghost messing with my stuff!

Sorry others are having problems, it is so easy to miss a tiny detail and when you finally find it you just want to slap yourself in the forehead.
