Increasing the maximum number of simultaneous transfers?

#1 Post by wtzouris » 2010-04-26 19:10

Hi everybody. I am new here. I have been using Filezilla with great success to upload from NY to CA, every night, through my very fast FIOS fiber optic connection 20/20 Mbps upload/download. I am getting between 1.5 and 2.4 MB/sec upload when I add the two upload speeds overall. Last night was a big night, 10.95 GB transferred in 2 hours, 20 minutes. So I am averaging 4.7 GB/hour.

Specs for last night:

1144 files total
1128 of them were 5 MB jpegs - they show 1.2 MB/sec speed per file being uploaded x 2
16 of them were 275 MB .wav files - they show 750-800 Kbps speed per file being uploaded x 2)

I have the Preference of maximum number of simultaneous transfers (1-10) set to the default of 2.
I increased the timeout in seconds setting to 90 seconds from the default of 20 (I don't know why but that seemed better)

Will I do any better if I increase the number of simultaneous transfers?

Any other advice would be appreciated.

Maybe, maybe not. Impossible to tell, best would be if you just try it out.

Is there any way to know the elapsed time of a que that was processed the night before?

If you enabled file logs, yes, otherwise no.

Setting the maximum number or transfers to 8 was a bad idea, caused all sorts of errors and failed transfers. I'm back to the default setting, maybe tomorrow I will try 4 simultaneous transfers, but having to erase the cue and start over was a real time waster this evening. Transfering 14.4 GB in 3 hours tonight.

Verizon FIOS 20/20 service is awesome.

OOOH I think 4 simultaneous transfers is the magic number. I did a quick test and with 2 transfers or larger files (300 MB) I average 1.2 MB/sec combined (about 600 Kb each) but with 4 transfers I get closer to my maximum upload connection speed of 2.4 MB/sec
