Permission to use screenshot

#1 Post by Priswell » 2006-01-25 21:55

I'd like to get permission to use the screenshot used at:

http://filezilla.sourceforge.net/images/screenshot.gif

for use in this newsletter where filezilla is featured:

The screenshot at http://filezilla.sourceforge.net/images/screenshot.gif is a little bit outdated, please have a look at http://filezilla-project.org/client_screenshots.php

Feel free to use one of the screenshots in your newsletter.

I am having a difficult time understanding why the OP cannot take a screenshot him/herself. Is s/he intending to link to the screenshot in question so that his/her bandwidth isn't used?

Not to answer for him, but there could a number of reasons for this...

First of all he might not even have FZ installed and can't be bothered to install it just for that. Furthermore maybe he doesn't know how to take a proper screenshot or he might think the screenshot in question was a good one; a lot of things are happening in it that illustrates what FZ can do. Basically, taking a good screenshot yourself is a lot more work than to copy a perfectly good one from FZ's official site.

Just my two cents :)

Thank you for the permission. I'm grateful

I am having a difficult time understanding why the OP cannot take a screenshot him/herself.

That's a valid question, and I'd like to answer that, if I may. I have recently become the editor of the newsletter for my Computer User's Group. Every month one of our members submits a "Disk of the Month" offer consisting of a fairly large number of free/very low fee software found on the internet for our members' interest and use. You can see a list of this month's offerings:

http://www.fresnocomputerusers.org/news ... 6.htm#disk

I just started this job. This month there are 31 offerings on the disk of the month. I'm hoping to have as many screenshots as possible to promote interest in the disk and the programs on them. If I download, say, 10 of these programs every month, and load them on my computer just to take screenshots (yes, I know how), that's a lot of programs on my computer to load, screenshot, track, sort and remove in a year.

In addition, especially this month, I'm rather pushed for time. The newsletter will be released in 2 more days. I got the assignment of designing, compiling and layout of the newsletter 3 weeks ago. I'm desperately trying to improve on the club's previous newsletter offerings:

If I can use the screenshots so graciously offered by FileZilla's original creator, I can save time and give FileZilla warm fuzzies knowing that both his program and screenshot are appreciated and being used.

Edited to note: The screenshot will be downloaded and then uploaded to our own server so as to not use FileZilla's bandwidth.
