Community discussion: Creating a FileZilla wiki
Hi everyone!
As first talked about in another post, I think a FileZilla wiki would be very useful for regular users, the community, and hopefully also the developers. I created this topic to let us discuss the issue, to hear what people think, and maybe get some volunteers. Remember that I'm not representing FZ in any official way, I'm just another user.
As botg said in the post mentioned above, he doesn't have the time to do it, so I guess it's up to us - the community around FZ - to discuss if we want to start a wiki, and try to convince botg that it'll come in handy. I'm also open to make a non-official one if that is the only option.
The wiki must first of all provide support and documentation to regular users. Furthermore it should follow the latest development of FZ closely, and provide a quick introduction to what is currently happening, how to use FZ in more advanced ways (compiling, using the FZ3 FTP engine in your own software etc) and so on. Think something like http://ipodlinux.org/
As an example of what a wiki could solve, I once started writing some docs on how to install and use FZ2. Unfortunatly I never finished it, but with the help of a wiki, I think the community together could make the proper documentation that both the FZ client and FZ server deserve.
I'm willing to work on administrating, moderating and writing for the wiki, but I'll have to have someone with me.
Let me hear what you think; every feedback is welcomed.

I think it's a good idea that would be a great resource for the nOObs to reference so they don't rehash the same queries here in the forums. Here's a test site using DokuWiki. Feel free to do what you want with it -- it's open to everyone. If it's abused, however, I'll obviously lock it down. Send me a PM if need be.
Thanks for that, TheAngryPenguin.
But imo we need to discuss this a bit more before we start, and not use a ad-hoc approach. The obvious thing that comes to mind is which wiki system is the best to use?
From a content viewpoint, basically what we need is a guy that has enough experience with FZC, FZS and organizing/editing a wiki to set up a frame for the whole wiki, to keep things organized from the start. We can also collaborate on setting up this framework. E.g. someone could propose an idea, that the others could discuss and improve.
I could be willing to participate in this collaboration proccess, but we nevertheless have to decide on which wiki to use.

Hello,
Very good idea, my I suggest using MediaWiki, this would appear to be a more stable wiki.
Regards.

Was this all we could contribute? I really believe it's just about getting someone to start, and then everybody can improve on that. The first "draft" (or whatever you want to call it) doesn't have to be more than a suggestion on the wiki, it doesn't have to be perfect or complete.
What was it you made in a word document, Zythan?

Some pages have been added to the wiki setup by botg, the client installation with screen shots is being up loaded at the moment.
I have not reinvented the wheel for some of the text taking into account that you have done quiet a lot already and the draft is only a "copy" in some ways of the doc you have already done.

Thanks for the installation guide Zythan.
However, can you please create .png versions of the images? Without any further optimizations applied, the first screen of the installer as .png is about 11KB as opposed to the .jpg version of 43KB, while retaining original image quality.
Further optimization could greatly reduce the size of the .png file without any loss of quality. And last but not least a final optimization pass should be done using pngcrush (see the pngcrush helper script in FileZilla3/src/interface/resources/pngclean.sh)
Reason behind this is used traffic, it sums up if many ppl will use the wiki in future.
