password settings

#1 Post by awake340 » 2012-03-14 19:34

I am new to Filezilla and still trying to figure things out. I uploaded a file to my server and on my website I linked the file to the uploaded files URL. I want people to be able to download a PDF from my website. Every time I click on the link it makes me type in a password. What do I need to change to allow people to download the file without a password?

Thank you!

Use the correct link, of course. You seem to use the FTP URL (starting with ftp://), which is tied to your FTP account, which in turn requires a password. Change that URL to the HTTP one (http://), take care about possibly different paths, though.

Note: FileZilla will always give you the FTP URL only, since FTP and HTTP work independently and one doesn't know about the other.
