how to access my ftp server remotely?

#1 Post by muzicbee9 » 2012-08-10 06:09

hi,
i created ftp server using filezilla server, i can access my ftp server in my local network and i wan't to access this server remotely. so, i created one dynamic dns in no-ip.com and when i gave this address to my friends it says, the connection timeout (http://------.dyndns.info). i added Port 80 (TCP) to windows firewall exception and i port-forwarded port 80 in my router settings and i restarted, still there is no access. Then i port-forwarded 80-81, still no access. In http://www.canyouseeme.org/ it shows an error "I could not see your service on ***.**.***.*** on port (80)
Reason: Connection timed out".
i have one more question, before when i check my internal ip address(command prompt then ipconfig) its the same for many days but now its keep on changing when my pc restart or shutdown. so, it has any affect on my router settings in portforwarding?
iam new to this kind of stuff, please help me.
Thank you :) .........

FileZilla Server does not use port 80 (HTTP). We use FTP, where the default port is 21. Port 80 does not work.

It needs the listening port and the Passive port range forwarded (TCP only). Your setup should work, if:
1. you tell FileZilla Server your external IP in the Passive settings (''Default'' ain't right), and
2. software firewalls are configured correctly to let FileZilla Server connections pass.

Of course the internal IP of the server PC must not change.

Hi,
I enabled 'Retieve external ip address' the one in the passive mode settings. I asked my friend to try with the external ip address (http://my external ip address) and the http://****.dyndns.com (which was created from no-ip.com) even then he cannot access my server.
i have bitdefender firewall and windows firewall, in windows firewall i added filezilla server to the exceptions.
Thank you.

First, let me say you do not require a friend to test your server. We have a test site in place that's able to help you configuring the server correctly.

https://ftptest.net/

Note that currently it works for unencrypted FTP only.

As you mention No-IP/DynDNS, you probably know you need to run their client on your computer, or activate the appropriate settings in the router, in order to keep the IP at your account current. Else the URL will point to an outdated IP. Just wanted to mention it.

So your issue is that even the initial connection fails? Or does it connect and just fails to get a listing? Does the server interface show a reaction?

Hi,
I created new domain in dnsdynamic.org and i used that one as hostname in ftptest.net and the status is connecting to my ip-address and there was an error showing 'connection attempt timed out', there was no reaction from server interface (not showing any logging) during that process. Even after disabling both windows and bitdefender firewall.
Thank you. :)

That would mean that either your ISP blocks (some do not allow any server hosting), or the port forwardings do not work. You should start by resetting the router, sometimes that's required. Then check the ISP contract if you are allowed to host servers.
