Server to Server FTP / FXP

#1 Post by maybis » 2013-04-29 02:52

I'm trying to move my websites between different hosts, but the files are enormous and will take literally weeks to upload again. So I'm trying to find a way to do server to server transfers. I know about FXP, but the hosts do not support these.

Is there any way or workaround to do this with FZ or any other software? If it's not freeware, and please PM details so you don't break any forum rules. Thanks

FileZilla cannot do server-to-server transfers, yet. And if the hosts do not support it, you are S. O. L.

That's not the only requirement. One server will be used normally in Passive mode. The other one needs to be called using Active (PORT) mode. In the PORT command for the transfer the client writes the IP of the other server and then initiates the transfer. Now to the problem: Many servers don't allow using a different IP for transfers than for the control channel in order to protect from FTP bounce attacks. The FXP PORT command would be rejected.

Workaround? Download onto the local machine, the upload to the second one.
