filezilla forgot passwords

#1 Post by Matjaz » 2013-05-20 13:52

Hi,

I have been using Filezilla for years. No problems so far. I have 10 servers listed in my config. When I select one, Filezilla connects to that FTP.

Just now something strange happened. When I clicked one of the servers, Filezilla doesn't connects but pops up a window and asks me for that server password. I didn't want to continue as I am not sure why FZ suddenly forgot all passwords. I tried with all other servers - its same. It won't connect but asks me for password for that server.

I didn't update Windows or Filezilla or anything. Just suddenly it started to happen.

Do you think my FZ has been modified by some malicious program or what is going on? Is it safe to type passwords in?

Thank you!

I forgot to attach screenshot of that popup:

One more thing. FZ is displaying "New version available". When I click it tries to download it but reports that file is not available. Screenshot is here:

Are these two issues related?
Ok, I don't worry about new version but I worry about passwords. Would you type passwords in again?

Did you accidentally disable saving of passwords in the settings dialog of FileZilla?

I didn't do anything. Everytime I connect, I just click arrow and select a server thats all I do. This time I did it exactly like this. I haven't been adding new servers, removing old or anything.

That is why it sounded alarm.... suddenly Filezilla doesn't remember my passwords. I went to check into servers' settings and before I had "Normal" in dropdown for username/password, now for all accounts it shows "Ask for password". While username is still there, passowords are gone.

You know I am old time user and I know I didn't do anything? Why would settings change and passwords gone? No one else is using my PC. Would such thing makes you worry?

Check if in the settings, Interface tab, under Behaviour, the ''Do not save passwords'' option is checked. Unselect that option if it is. Set your Site Manager entries back to ''Normal'' logontype and re-apply the passwords.

I didn't ask that...

What I asked is this:
Do you think my FZ has been modified by some malicious program or what is going on?
FZ forgot all passwords and dropdown option has changed from Normal to Ask for password. Strange!

Your stored sites' logon type changes only if saving of passwords has been disabled. It is disabled in two cases, either the user explicitly disabled it in the settings dialog, or, upon using the quickconnect bar the first time, answer no to the question whether to store passwords.

So you think even if I had user/pass saved for all my 10 sites and then I used Quick connect and answered NO, it is possible that FZ would change settings for those websites I have saved?

Thats a ridiculous setting. Needs a better warning on this, or to not do it at all.

Really ridiculous ... should not change existing passwords we have saved before.
Please fix it. I appreciate it! :D

Nothing to fix, working as intended. I agree the warning should be improved. However, who reads warnings? Many don't.

It should not erase all passwords for 50 servers if you use Quick Connect for one session and click "Do not remember pass". you clicked that for this particular session... i doubt one wanted to say "Well, erase all my passwords too" :D

Don't save passwords = Kiosk mode 1 = Do not retain any passwords on permanent storage
