What's up with the SFInstaller_SFFZ_filezilla_8992693_.exe

#1 Post by DavidPee » 2013-08-14 19:55

Hi,
Just went to download Filezilla from sourceforge.net after rebuilding one of my systems.

It appears that SF tries to get me to download something that begins with SFInstaller...

What's the deal with this? This doesn't seem like how FileZilla has been packaged/distributed before?

Thanks!

DavidPee

It's legit. This installer may present you with third-party offers during installation, and only then. You are not required to accept any offer in order to install FileZilla.

Yes, thanks for the reply. I also saw the alternate link for downloading it without the SFInstaller as well.

Yes, the author has allowed SourceForge to infect the installation of Filezilla with crapware that nobody wants or needs in an effort to get money.

It's not an infection. Besides, you don't have to accept any of the presented offers, they are entirely optional.

It absolutely is an infection. You expect one thing and get another. In addition, the Ask.com toolbar has been considered malware for a VERY long time.

As you have already been told many times, this malware ridden installer will *NOT* work on 64-bit machines.

Nice try at justifying your actions though.

There's no toolbar being installed. Also, the installer works fine on 64bit system. The problem is with some firewall or proxy on your end that actively modifies HTTP traffic.

Wrong... Several people have already reported issues with the installer on 64-bit systems, including with screen shots. You keep ignoring them.

It's not related to the bitness of your operating system. It's due to some firewall, router or other software with firewall-like functionality that modified HTTP traffic.

The majority of users of FileZilla already runs a 64bit OS. Naturally, if there is any problem, most reports come from users of 64bit systems. Of course that doesn't imply the problem is due to the 64bit system, correlation does not imply causation.

You are ABSOLUTELY WRONG, Botg. It is NOT a firewall setting causing this. It is a bad installer from SourceForge. They have even admitted it. Stop trying to defend this and your crappy choices to allow SourceForge to do this.

It *ABSOLUTELY IS* a bad installer. Read the error messages that people are posting and you can see it for yourself.

See if this way: Roads should be perfectly flat. Now you neglect maintenance of your roads and gigantic potholes form. Ordinary cars break when driving over such roads. Two solutions: You fix your roads, or everyone buys monster trucks. In this case, the firewall is the pothole. The installer is the car.

Closing this topic. If you see the facts, no further discussion is needed. If you cannot see the facts, further discussion is pointless.
