What do I download: filezilla client or server
I need to be able to download files from a company I work for - they have just given me an ftp address, e.g.
ftp://nameftp@111.22.33.169/for_Mary
(note this is a made up address but have use their format 'name'=company it came from, nos are in format they gave, and 'for_Mary' am assuming is the file location)
then User name & password
Am not sure whether I download the stuff for filezilla client or filezilla server or are they the same

Re: What do I download: filezilla client or server
well have managed to successfully download the client now but I keep getting this
Status: Waiting to retry...
Status: Delaying connection for 1 second due to previously failed connection attempt...
Status: Connecting to 172.20.34.169:21...
Error: Connection timed out
Error: Could not connect to server
I use windows 8 so it can't be the operating software

The address you are connecting to doesn't match the one you mentioned in your original post.

Re: What do I download: filezilla client or server
sorry - in the original post I was just showing the number format example rather than actual nosbotg wrote:The address you are connecting to doesn't match the one you mentioned in your original post.
a friend has suggested the company have given me the wrong host address to point at
Re: What do I download: filezilla client or server
Unless it's an example address as well, the IP in your other post is a private, unroutable IP address which cannot be used over the internet.

Amazing what happens when you have to keep querying the address and then eventually the message gets through - have now managed to get on and download what I need to but it was clear they'd given me the wrong details and then when I got on, the files weren't there but they then reloaded them to that address when I asked them to.
Phew - I knew I wasn't that stupid re this sort of thing
Hopefully I'll work out how to upload the files once I've finished working on them

Simple drag and drop will work. Just save the changes you've made and drag files to the right explorer window(I guess).

It didn't help that they hadn't uploaded the files to that server either - ho hum - once they had, like you suggested, thanks, I managed to drag the files over.
