filezilla v 3.31.0 problem - cannot connect to server?

#1 Post by Arbyem » 2018-03-20 21:27

After upgrading from Filezilla 3.30.0 to 3.31.0, I cannot establish a connection to my usual server to update my website contents. Is there any known problem which could be causing this unfortunate reaction?

Make sure that no firewall or virus scanner is blocking FileZilla.

Thanks for the speedy response with, apparently, valid advice. However, I have been using the same FileZilla app for years, with no such problem of it being blocked. Why would there be a change in upgrading from v3.30.0 to v3.31.0?

Some firewalls and virus scanners block programs merely because they have changed. Needless to say, updating a program changes it.

Also, some scanners use "file ratings" or "reputation"-based techniques. Unfortunately, those reputation databases are often fed by ignorant idiots who cannot see the difference between an optional offer and a malware.

And a few also block programs just because they are "unknown". New executables that come with a program update are, by definition, not widely known.

For clarification, for purposes of attempting some sort of resolution, my configuration is Windows 7 on Boot Camp on my MacBook Pro Mid-2012, OS 10.5.5 (still on Yosemite because my Boot Camp disappeared after an attempted upgrade to the next version). I use only MalwareBytes Premium on my Windows 7 partition. My website uses FrontPage 2003, with hosting by Host Papa/cPanel, which I have been using successfully for over seven years with FileZilla.
What potential troubleshooting process could I use to seek a resolution?

Hi again: With apologies, and thanks, to all who contributed, I can now clarify that the actual problem was one of my domain name having been inadvertently cancelled thereby denying access to my website). Coolcom had, for some still not known reason, failed to honour my Auto-payment function for the renewal of the domain name registration 0n 18 Mar 2018. Regrettably, this coincided with my attempt to update my website on 19 Mar 2018, using FileZilla (which had been upgraded the same day). Hence, once I finally accomplished the necessary payment to Coolcom on 21 Mar 2018, I was finally able to re-establish access to the HostPapa/cPanel server and complete the update process successfully! Accordingly, I will close this posting.
