Clicking QuickConnect clears Port field then can't connect

#1 Post by rHgrEg » 2018-06-19 18:44

I'm using the latest version of Filezilla but I have used previous versions in the past with no problem.
I don't do anything fancy -- generally just uploading PDF files to my WordPress website.

This is what is happening now:
1) As before, I fill in the Host name (my blueHost), my username, my BH hosting password, and 21 as the Port
2) As before, I click QuickConnect
3) Now, the Port field clears and I get a message "The connection is encrypted"
4) When I click again it says FZ is already connected to a server and gives options, none of which work.

I see the files on my own machine on the left, but none on the right (where I usually had seen my BlueHost WP files).

Any advice??
Thanks!
Janet

The default port isn't show, similar to your browser not displaying the default port of any website you visit.

Is it still failing (want to rule out a temporary server problem)?

Yes, it's still failing and hasn't worked for a few weeks at least. I had always entered "21" in the Port field previously and it always worked. But now whether or not I enter "21" it says "Not connected to any server" in the right hand side file section. The Remote Site field at the top is blank.

When I click on QuickConnect again, it says "FZ is already connected to a server."

Thanks for any help!

The port not showing is actually unrelated to the problem. It just doesn't show because 21 is the default port for FTP. Your browser also does show you neither the default HTTP port 80 nor the default HTTPS port 443, correct? And, the most important: If the port is default, you do not have to enter it at all (FileZilla knows the default ports).

Could you test the FTP server on our https://ftptest.net server test page? Please test both the Plain and the FTPS Explicit profiles and report the results back.

1) Correct - The browser shows neither port 80 nor port 443

2) I tried both the Plain and the Explicit tests and each result said that the "server was working and assorted routers/firewalls have been correctly configured... However there have been warnings about compatibility issues, not all users will be able to use your server."

As before I can see my own files on the left, but none of my WordPress files on the right. It says, "Not connected to any server." in the bottom right.

Thanks for any help!

The warning on the test page can be currently ignored, if it is about IPv6. However, proper IPv6 support will become much more important in the near future (when IPv4 addresses will be no longer assigned).

As it looks, the problem is with your system, with FileZilla being partially blocked by a firewall. Connection to the server is allowed, but connection to and usage of data ports (which are required for any file listing and transfer) is denied.

Please post a complete log from a failing session.
