Questions regarding FileZilla Pro on multiple OSs

#1 Post by walula » 2018-10-11 19:03

Hello,
i've been using FileZilla free for many years on both my Windows and Mac systems; i was wondering: is possible, with the purchase of a single license, to install both versions of the product on my computers or if i need to buy a single license for each system? (even if i am the only user).

Thank you in advance for the answer :D

If you are a private user, that should be not a problem.

Dear all,

same question here... And, additionally, I have another question to this. I bought FileZilla Pro for Mac from the Mac app store some time ago. Over the last few weeks the latest update 3.37.4 was not released (and still is not). I don't know if there are special reasons why the update is not published via the app store, but is there a way to downlod it from the official site using my order number from the app store?

Best regards,
Wolfgang

Look at the changes for 3.37.4 to see why it's not for Mac.

But 3.37.4 is availabe to download on the website - also for macOS. It only is not available on the mac app store.

Yes, and? What difference does a number make? In this case it changes a number.

I don't want to play the clever-dick but why do you change the number when there are no changes? Also the checksums of the files doesn't match (maybe because you have changed the version numer in the About window, maybe because of other changes).

When there are no changes, you don't have to release a new version and - in this case - no one would have asked why this update hasn't been released yet on the app store.

My best guess: Automatic compile and build process pushes the new packages to the download locations. This includes OS for which there haven't been changes. The App Store process is manual and only done if there are actual changes.

Rule of thumb for Store users: If the Store doesn't push a new version, none is required. You are using the Store version because it is effortless, right?

The downloads from the website are a different distribution channel and the minor version numbers do not always match up.

Hey! Thanks for your answer.

No, I wanted to buy the Pro version from the website but at that time I was only able to find the Windows version there. The app store offered the mac version and so I bought it there.

I had some software in the past which release was massivly delayed on the app store - or at some point not longer been done - like Xilisoft Video Converter Ultimate. It only got 3 updates or so and the other 30 was only available from the official website (they provided me a serial number to activate the web version because they canceled the app store releases permanently).

Same problem with Mountain. To activate the web version you have to install the very old app store version and than replace it with the newer web version...

This was the reason I asked for the possibility of downloading it with the order number of the app store purchase.

With your Email and order number, you should always be able to download the current Pro version from

If you bought FileZilla Pro on the app store you have to use the app store to obtain the product. Apple does not share customer data with app makers.
