can't use gmail.com for registering FileZilla Forum account?

Does anyone know if that will be changed in the future? I don't want to have to change e-mail providers because of one site. And I don't like having to have/use multiple e-mail accounts.

Google needs to get its spam problem under control. As long as gmail is free, there will always be atrocious amounts of spambots using Google, more than there are actual human users.

Really? I thought Google had the best spam control. What is the best e-mail service then? Maybe I need to move. And/or what is the most popular e-mail service based on this forum's membership?

Self-hosted is best.

Self-hosted e-mail? That comes with a slew of pre-requisites that not everyone can meet. Like you have to have reliable internet. Or purchase a VPS.

But I am curious, what self-hosting for e-mail solution do you use/recommend? It is something I have been looking into.

I personally hate Gmail and want to move off of it but can't figure out to what or where.

My preferred choice: Dedicated root server running Debian all the way. For mail software I currently use Exim4 for the SMTP part and Dovecot for the IMAP part.

You can rent a system with an Intel i7, 32GB of RAM, two SSDs and unlimited traffic at 1Gbit/s for a mere 40 bucks/month, most cellphone contracts are more expensive than that.

On the low end of the spectrum, a single-core cloud VPS with SSD storage, 2GB RAM and 20TB monthly traffic costs 3bucks/month. Due to Spectre/Meltdown I don't trust VPS to handle sensitive data though.

That's still a lot of money for the average consumer. Self-hosting e-mail comes with a lot of hassle and you miss out on many features like a more robust and evolved virus scanning and spam detection that you get with Google, Microsoft, Apple, etc...

I just wish there was a non self hosting option better than Google.

I am curious if its possible to export profile data for FileZilla users to see what e-mail hosting everyone is using. It would be a telling stat.
