IMac alias files

Hi guys,
Sorry for what might be a really dumb question but here goes ...
I have some alias files on my imac that I want to load to my web site ... the problem is Filezilla does not seem to recognise aliases and just loads a file full of squares
Can anyone suggest anything ?
What I wanted to do was to have several versions of the same PHP file so I can work on a particular problem with SEO and aliases appeared to be the solution.
