Feature Suggestion: HTTP support in FileZilla Client

#1 Post by master.cheung » 2004-10-12 04:06

I tried to use filezilla client to download file using e.g. http://<server>/filename.exe without sucess.

I wonder if this can be made possible.

This way user can control the speed of the http download using the filezilla's bandwidth control and download not only ftp files but http files from the Internet at a constant speed.

Regards,
Master.Cheung

Sorry, but I do not see the point in this. HTTP is a whole different protocol than FTP, adding HTTP download to FZ support would be quite some work. Moreover, there a *plenty* of good free HTTP download managers available on the net which are capable of doing bandwidth control. Check out e.g. http://www.freedownloadmanager.org/.

Maybe Master.Cheung would like to have a WebDAV client implemented into FileZilla?!?

WebDAV support would be a nice addition. Though it won't be implemented after everything else has een implemented first.

The download manager you referred to is nice, but doesn't support uploads. I would like to add mine to the voices looking for DAV support in a later version of FileZilla.

you dont have to write the protocol its self you can leverage the wget or even bundle wget with future versions so all you have to do is call the wget command.

oh http protocols are open so you dont have to worry about licenses

This topic is from 2004, and last response from 2005. We have 2022. HTTPS-based protocols like WebDAV and most cloud providers are already implemented into the FileZilla Pro client.

Always check the dates and latest news before necro-posting into an old (and now irrelevant) topic, again. Thanks.
