Feature Request: Dark theme and ability to hide panes

Good day,

I'm almost certain that these have been discussed at length and if they never come to be, they never come to be and I'll keep enjoying FileZilla, but I'm just adding a request for a dark theme and the ability to remove the Local Site panes entirely (I would feel comfortable doing that because I'm only uploading, never downloading. Plus if I wanted to get the Local Site panes back, I could just find it in the Options again).

Thank you!

- Mark

People have been requesting this since 2015 for Windows 10, I don't think it's going to happen anytime soon, if ever. Someone will inevitiably say "Change your Windows theme and Filezilla will adopt it.". This is incorrect, Windows Theme is for the System, not applications. I hear Linux and Mac OS Filezilla is capable of Dark Theme though.

Windows Theme is for the System, not applications.
The "System" is running behind the scenes, the "System" doesn't require any Theme (neither does it require any UI). The Theme is meant for the UI/Desktop environment, the OS' standard applications, and all applications that run natively on the OS. FileZilla is such a natively running application. If you change a font, FileZilla will use it. If you change a color, the same.

Dark Themes work on all OS that have implemented Themes properly. That would be all OS except Windows. On Windows, MS decided to lock down the uxtheme.dll and only allow MS content. They never delivered a proper dark theme.

"Change your Windows theme and Filezilla will adopt it."
that's correct. Change to the High Contrast (Black) and FileZilla will be dark (but ugly). You can get many dark themes from the Internet, but you need to patch your uxtheme.dll, thanks to MS.

Windows 10 has two settings:
- One for the "modern" UWP Apps, that one does not apply to FileZilla at all.
- For the second one, Dark mode for Desktop, they decided to only apply it to the Explorer itself, in a hacky way. You can even see Explorer windows flashing white when opened before the dark overlay is painted on top.

That is the reason for FileZilla not being dark - MS doesn't want it to be. Dark Desktop is only for Explorer.

I hear Linux and Mac OS Filezilla is capable of Dark Theme though.
FileZilla for Linux and MacOS is, functionally, the very same as Windows. It can use the dark theme because the OS properly applies it to all native applications.

So you're saying that it's not system colors.

Can you post the mail from them where they forbid you from making dark theme?

Like few others registered just to talk about dark theme. Your program is great. But the comments...

This is the only reasonable comment you posted about this. And if you don't want to put extra work for windows app that's your choice. But why post all the other shit?
