Download speed

#1 Post by dascenzof » 2020-04-09 11:01

Hi, I'm new on this forum. I've used filezilla for a short time and I've notized that the download speed doesn't change according to internet connection.
It's always 10Mib/s with both a gigabit connection (1000Mbps) and a 200Mbps connection.
What does it depend on? Can I do something to increase the download speed?

Thanks.

What does it depend on?
First and foremost? On the capabilities of the server you are connected to. Better said, on its upload speed, as that's what you use, if you download from there.

In other words: If the server can upload with 100MBit/s, which are 12.5MB/s, you can not download any faster. That server upload speed sounds about right, as there will be a certain bandwidth percentage wasted, due to protocol/data overhead and some other factors.

Next, on the CPU and memory capabilities of both your client and the server machine, especially if you use FTP over TLS. Encryption and decryption requires some resources and can load weak hardware..

Hello,
I am also new to this forum and this is my first post.
I don't have great web developing skills but I managed to create my own website on wordpress platform, for my own small business.
Where should I check the server configuration? The website adress is <irrelevant> (if it helps...).
My transfer speed is also sometimes very slow like dascenzof's said.
Is there a way to fix this?
