Since installing the latest update, I get an 'Opening Failed' dialogue box appearing each time I open a file even though the files are opening normally.

Worth mentioning it only happens when opening local files.

Is it possible to revert to the previous version?

Try 3-48-1-rc1.

Current version is 3-48-0 and is reported as latest.
If I get 3-48-1from the website will it wipe out my settings?

Of course not, 3.48.1-rc1 is the release candidate of the next release 3.48.1. You can also temporarily switch update check in FileZilla to check for "Stable and Beta releases", in order to get 3.48.1-rc1. You can switch it back to "Stable only" later.

I wish all software was as easy to download and maintain, I can forgive the occasional glitch.
