Transferring files directly from one FTP to another without downloading to local server

#1 Post by caseq » 2022-01-26 21:03

Can anyone advise how to go about transferring files from one FTP site directly to another without needing to download the files to a local server location as an in-between step?

Additionally, does anyone know if this can be done in large targeted batches (like can I provide filezilla a list of files I want pulled and have it directly send them to another FTP without needing to download to my desktop)?

If Filezilla does not have the capabilities to do this how are other people solving this problem? What programs are you using?

Thanks so much for your help!
Best,
Elizabeth

Not possible, the protocol lacks support for this.

It is impossible for FTP. You need to control/remotely control one of the FTP server, then do tricks. If 2 servers both are out of your control then no way

Remote packing/unpacking is not possible. The reason is the same as for server-to-server transfers, the FTP protocol simply lacks any support for it.

And, please, don't refer to ZIP as if it was the only compression format available. Granted, it was one of the very first, but, these days, there are much better ones, like 7-Zip (*.7z) or RAR.

It's not only you, sorry. But it's getting slightly frustrating if everyone just always mentions ZIP as if it was the only option.

I believe it is that Windows 11 itself supports .zip without applications

Edit: format

Windows itself does not support .zip. Only the shell subsystem does.

(Fig. Win11 opens .zip. auto-delete after 6 months)

I don't know sub-system, just wanna mention the open file application. Feel free to share ideas

That's the Windows shell extension ("zipfldr.dll"). Just install the free Open Source 7-Zip, and you can use a plethora of other, far better formats.
