Assorted errors after changing password.

#1 Post by chilkoot » 2022-02-13 20:49

I've had Filezilla for years, changed passwords before. Now, I changed passswords on my WEB site and I put the new password into filezilla (rechecked twice) and it won't connect giving me errors, cannot connect to server, saying wrong IP address when I run configuration. I'm no computer nerd, what is wrong? I went with defaults on configuration, I put in manually my local IP address, which didn't stay in. I only changed the password and I get strange error messages. I went back one version to see if that was it, but not.
PASS 3.56.2
Response: 230 logged on.
Checking for correct external IP address
IP 10.109.221.101 ba-baj-ccb-bab
Response: 510 Mismatch. Your IP is 69.4.234.114, gj-e-cde-bbe
Wrong external IP address
Connection closed

My Public IPv4 is:
69.4.234.100
My Public IPv6 is:
2606:2e00:0:b9::b40d
My IP Location: Providence, UT US
ISP: Hosting Services Inc.

When I put in my IP address manually this is what I get:
PASS 3.56.2
Response: 230 logged on.
Checking for correct external IP address
IP 69.4.234.100 gj-e-cde-baa
Response: 510 Mismatch. Your IP is 69.4.234.114, gj-e-cde-bbe
Wrong external IP address
Connection closed

I just changed the password... No, I don't know what the old one was.

My internet comes in through a router, I've never had trouble with it. I am using a VPN but don't see how that should matter. I tried it without but it still fails.

If somebody has any ideas, I would be interested to hear. thanks

Sorry I don't know how else to explain it.

If you want to use active mode you need to tell FileZilla your public IP address since you are behind a NAT router. The address you entered is not your public IP address.

Hi, thanks for answering. I'm not 'trying' to do anything except get zilla working again. When I set it up years ago I used the automatic software you have and it worked. Why would an IP address change when I just changed the password?? Why would anything else change??

Connecting to probe.filezilla-project.org
Connection established, waiting for welcome message.
Response: 220 FZ router and firewall tester ready
USER FileZilla
Response: 331 Give any password.
PASS 3.58.0
Response: 230 logged on.
Checking for correct external IP address
IP 10.109.221.101 ba-baj-ccb-bab
Response: 510 Mismatch. Your IP is 198.54.128.86, bji-fe-bci-ig
Wrong external IP address
Connection closed

OK I told it to look up the IP address, and it did, it got past that and now another problem.
I just changed the passowrd!!!! What happened?

Response: 200 OK
PREP 62021
Response: 200 Using port 62021, data token 657046018
PORT 198,54,128,86,242,69
Response: 200 PORT command successful
LIST
Response: 150 opening data connection
Response: 503 Failure of data connection.
Server sent unexpected reply.
Connection closed

If you don't intend to use active mode you shouldn't run the wizard to configure active mode and run the test for active mode.

Changing passwords doesn't change anything. If anything else changed, it merely coincided with the change of password without any causation either way.

I have never, NEVER said anything about wanting active mode...
Yet, you run the Wizard which is ONLY for getting Active mode to work. Passive mode does not require any configuration on the client side, so there is no Wizard for Passive mode.

You said you changed the password on the website. Websites are served over HTTP(S) which is a different service from FTP. Most probably, you didn't change the password for the FTP service, at all, and it is still the old one. Look for a way to change the FTP login data, it must explicitly state that it is for FTP.
No support requests over PM! You will NOT get any reply!!!
FTP connection problems? Please read Network Configuration.
