Secure Filezilla with a password

Hello
We can save password for each project in Filezilla.
If my computer is stolen someone malicious would have access to all my projects and could do considerable damage.
So I just wanted to know if there is a way to make sure that the Filezilla app is a master password before accessing the projects?

FileZilla has a master password feature for securing all Site Manager passwords. But beware, if you enable it, that there is NO backdoor and NO recovery possible for the master password, so, remember it well! The master password, like every other setting, site data and credentials, never leaves your PC*.

As for your whole PC, use the OS means for drive encryption. Even if it gets stolen, the thief will be unable to access the data on the encrypted drives.



*Note: FileZilla Pro has a sites and settings sync feature, this is the only exception where encrypted site and settings data is up- and downloaded. But you must explicitly enable it, and you're still 100% in charge where it syncs to.

If Windows, I advise against using the OS means for drive encryption. Bitlocker keys are synchronized with the cloud, giving Microsoft full access. But if you somehow get your Microsoft account blocked, you can no longer access your own encrypted data. I recommend to use VeraCrypt instead for full disk encryption.

Yep, Veracrypt 1.25.9 by IDRIX. Bitlocker is corporate cr*p.

Thanks for your answer. I will see for the general password.
In the case I forgot it, uninstall Filezilla and after a new Filezilla installed, I can enter all my websites parameters and recover my projects ?

No need, you can disable the master password feature without knowing the master password. This will delete all encrypted passwords and leave the rest of the site data and the settings alone. You only need to re-enter the passwords, then.
Of course, if you know the master password, the passwords will be kept on disabling.
