error writing xml-file

#1 Post by erwinM » 2022-12-03 11:04

Hi,

When I installed Filezilla on my new mac, I had to click away several messages. In that I've denied access for filezilla to write to .config/filezilla/filezilla.xml.

Now I can't change passwords, add sites etc.. Already deinstalled and installed filezilla, but I didn't got the message again.

Does anyone know how to fix this?

Regards,
Erwin

You can change permissions in macOS' preferences if you have previously denied FileZilla access.

That's what I thought. I've given permissions within 'privacy and security', but this doesn't help. When I try to open the site management it also says that it's already opened. I don't know if that's related to the xml-file permissions.

Have you yet attempted a reboot?

yes, I have, several times. I'm having this problem for half a year already. I'm not a daily user and not expanding in sites at the moment, so I could work with it.

Because my hoster was under attack, they are blacklisting everyone who tries to login, but fails and they have reset my password for the ftp-login. I can enter my new password, but it won't be saved. Each time when I use Filezilla and enter this hoster, not thinking fast enough about the new password, I will be blacklisted. Therefore I have to reach out to the hoster by creating a ticket. This is annoying and I can't always acces the server when I want to.

Maybe the permissions on the file/directory itself are bonkers. You could, after making a backup, try to delete the entire ~/.config/filezilla directory.

I've already checked the permissions and changed it to writing for all files. The directory was already set to writing for all.

I've renamed the directory, when I start Filezilla, a new directory is created and the problem isn't solved.

So somehow there's a setting in my mac or in Filezilla where this is set. I've updated my mac to a whole new version of macOS, but that didn't help either.
