Question about FileZilla Pro

#1 Post by pyew » 2023-10-31 20:19

I can't figure out where to ask a question about FIleZilla Pro. I've used filezilla for years, but would like to automate it more. What I read indicates Pro does not support the kind of synchronization I want to use. My desktop backup program has three options: exact copy, simple copy, and synchronize. What I want to do for my cloud backup is not to delete anything, only add new files. In the lingo of my desktop program that would be simple copy. Copy whatever is new or newer from the desktop to my cloud backup but DO NOT delete anything from the cloud.

I do not see that option in FileZilla Pro. Synchonization type: Local to Remote.
"Local to remote: local files not on the server are uploaded, files on the server
but not on the local directory are removed from the server, files existing on both
sides are uploaded depending on the Same File option.

It does not appear that Pro can do the kind of backup I want to do... I do not want files deleted on the desktop to be deleted from the cloud. (Except of course by me manually).

Am I misunderstanding something?

I want to bypass the step I have to do now where I have to do the copy of new files directory by directory... and have a more automated procedure by handling subdirectories automatically.

That is only for people who OWN it already, not for questions about it, apparently. Nonetheless I tried to make an account and it told me:
The field “Order Number” must be completed.

I'm not going to buy it until I know it will do what I want to do...

I do not see that option in FileZilla Pro.
This sentence hinted to tho that you already have it.

I cannot answer the question, don't use Sync. But admin can. Just wait.

Not deleting extra stuff is not synchronization.

What you want is just plain regular uploads, with the file exists action set to "overwrite if source newer".

In other tools it is called a type of synchronization, but never mind... This is what I do now directory by directory, but what I want is something that will check all directories in a tree for new files on the "from" and copy them to the "to" without deleting anything. I want this backup to be of everything I ever had.

I tried out one tool that can do this but it did not tell me what it was going to do... My desktop tool that I use for backups does (optionally) provide a list of what it is going to do. And it does occasionally save me from an error...
