FileZilla under XAMPP

Hello,
For a couple of years, I have been using XAMPP with the included version of FileZilla (0.9.41). While this has been very successful, I wanted some additional features that only more recent versions of FileZilla Server would provide.
Has anyone successfully replaced FileZilla 0.9.41 with FileZilla 1.8.1 under XAMPP or do they simply run FileZilla 1.8.1 as a standalone FTP?
