Feature request: show sitemanager on startup

#1 Post by bmjansen » 2008-02-29 09:08

Hi,

For me, a very convenient feature of FileZilla 2 is that the sitemanager is always shown on startup. Since I am a webdeveloper and have about 50 sites in the sitemanager, I often connect to different FTP servers.
In FileZilla 2 this was very easy: start FileZilla, press the key of the first character of the name of the FTP account in the site manager, maybe a couple of times arrow down and then Enter and I'm in.
In FileZilla 3 I have to open the SiteManager first, which costs me an extra Ctrl-S key stroke.

If you can make a configuration option "show sitemanager on startup", this would really make (in my opinion) FileZilla 3 a lot more user friendly.

Thank you for considering this enhancement.

Yes That would be really good !

Missing 2 features in ver3

1. site manager at start-up
2. refresh server after upload

+1, would be a nice addition!

(unless this feature has been added in the mean time, but I didn't find it so far..?)

Use the command line parameter '-s'

Code: Select all

"C:\Program Files\Filezilla FTP Client\Filezilla.exe" -s
You can change Filezilla's shortcut for permanent effect.
No support requests over PM! You will NOT get any reply!!!
FTP connection problems? Please read Network Configuration.

You can't. Blame Apple for making such a terrible operating system. The usability of OS X is severely limited.

As workaround, create a shellscript that calls FileZilla with the arguments, then just execute that shellscript instead to start FileZilla.

Actually, all I was doing was giving a reason for people requesting that the "show sitemanager on startup" option be re-enabled.

A few people have been asking for it, and the response I keep seeing (whilst Googling around) is always "modify the shortcut".

It's a cross platform app now, (for which I am sincerely gratefull) and I wanted to point out Windows hacks are not necessarily an option for everyone.

That is a valid point. I don't see any reason for this option to be a command line operation at all. It should be configurable in the Settings dialog (or in the Site Manager itself) and saved as a setting in the .xml configuration files.

FileZilla isn't scriptable and isn't meant to be, right? Any time someone asks the "it's an interactive GUI app" drum gets beaten. So why are there any command line options at all? Leastwise, why are there command line options that aren't completely redundant with settings configurable within the application? Having the application support URIs like "filezilla ftp://123.45.67.89/" to automatically connect is one thing. Controlling client behavior like this is completely different.

Why is it only a command line option? Why isn't is configurable within the GUI? And if it were configurable within the GUI, why not depreciate the command line option?

I also want this added. It's a PITA to go modify all users' shortcuts, since they can't do it themselves.

I'm surprised there isn't a checkbox in the config to open site manager on start. Most all other clients have that option.

i agree with adding this as a feature.

-s is nice and i've now done that but . . . it really should be part of the interface options like it was in previous versions.
