Hi guys -

I cant believe the amount of aggro this is giving me!

Like most of you, Filezilla was working fine and suddenly stopped working.
I tried uploading to another of my pages and strangely it worked OK.

I also tried SmartFTP on the same computer and FTPSurfer on my laptop and they yielded the same results ...

Error: Could not connect to server
Status: Waiting to retry...
Status: Delaying connection for 1 second due to previously failed connection attempt...
Status: Resolving address of hatelegance.com
Status: Connecting to 94.136.40.196:21...
Status: Connection attempt failed with "ECONNREFUSED - Connection refused by server".
Error: Could not connect to server

Could the upload server be down? I'm using 123 Reg, and from what I've read they are pretty crap. But to suddenly go down, and stay down surely isn't right!

Are any of you guys using 123 Reg?
Have any of you suddenly resolved your issues?

Thanks,
Stu

If you suspect the server is down, you can always test with https://ftptest.net/. If the test fails, the problem is with the server.

So I've got a similar problem. Using Filezilla on a Mac and i'm getting the ECONNREFUSED error. At my workplace, I'm using a wireless Router with a static IP and the problem persists across diff systems here.

Funnily, when I use it at home to connect to the same server - Different ISP behing a wifi router again. It connects!

Now i'm not as well versed to get down to the root of the problem, but then it just might be my ISP? Cos it's definitely not a firewall problem..

Any ideas, anyone?!

Possibly. But it could very well be the router.

Hey guys just came buy this post. I think my windows firewall is blocking filezilla, is there anyway to tell windows to add an exception? I clicked allow, but it hasnt seemed to work. :x Anyways I am trying to figure out if its maybe not windows, possibly the router... Im really not techie so this stuff is killing me. Can anyone point me toward an online resource for trouble shooting.

Thanks fixed it!!!

All settings for the Windows firewall are in Control Panel - Windows Firewall. First try it with the firewall completely off. If still doesn't work then it's something else.

Hi..

I use Xubuntu and has used Fz for very long time. I have never had any problem to use Fz client to connect to the one server I actually use. But since I have updated Fz I can no longer connect and as everyone else I get this "ECONNREFUSED - Connection refused by server"

For me it has worked always, I have had FW, I have had a router and bridge and so on.. used it via adsl, cable and no troubles at all. I read through this thread, and took a look in the manual on Fz wiki. did the wizard too just incase.. but nope nope.. still the same result. I took down the FW, took away the router and that.. and tried direct connect.. same problem. I even unplugged and turned the cable modem on again. Just to see.. even waited long enough to have resived a new ip [as I have dynamic] still same problem "ECONNREFUSED - Connection refused by server"

I then checked if the server I trying to reach was down.. but its up and I can use other ways to reach it..
Just adding this to let ye guys know, that even with all things disconnected and just a plain open direct connect the same trouble appears, with a Fz client, and used on a ubuntu dist.

I hope that will help and the solution, will be reached :) couse Fz is great.
ooh and when I did that wizard test.. it says all is oki and works fine .. ready to use :)
but when I do the connection to servers "ECONNREFUSED - Connection refused by server"

peace

mm :)
As I wrote I have..
I didn't just turn it off. I took it off my system [Xubuntu 10.04 with newest linux kernal], I did the same with anti virus.. I took away any the router and the built-in FW .. I set the puter in direct connect with the cable modem etc etc.. but as I said same trouble.

I have also tried other ftp apps.. they work, with or without the FW, routers, anti-virii etc.

What else is there I can do? :)
Something that I might have forgotten, is there something I can do with the Fz?
like mm delete it completely from my system and d/l the src and compile it?

is so clueless here.. and its so boring as Fz is a great app, really like it.

Oops, my reply was more to the dude below you. Your post totally slipped through (board didn't mark it as new :?).

Could you use the https://ftptest.net/ website to test the server? If the test fails, the problem's with the server. If it succeeds, we need to find alternative causes/solutions. Though I'm not really a Linux user; I guess I'll be not much of help here...

The solutions that works for me: in FileZilla change the Servertype from FTP to SFTP. (On general tab below the name of the host).

That'll work only if the server side supports SFTP, but many don't.

In my case it turned out that the ip address of my website was changed (probably due to ipv6). To find out my new ip address I simply did a ping to my website. Run cmd ; ping www. google.com (the website is an example ;-).
