program association.

When I try to open a notepad file I get the following error: "No program has been associated on your system with this file type." I have compared the settings on this computer with another where I can open the file and cannot find a difference in the settings. Does anyone have an idea where I associate the file type?
Thanks

What happens if you right-click the same file in Windows Explorer and select 'Open'? If it's not associated yet, associate it now. Filezilla will then adopt the OS associations.

I can open the file if I go to the network location and open the file by various means. I guess that I do not understand what "associated" means. I have attempted to look up associated at the FileZilla site and do not get any information. Would you please explain how to associate a wordpad file on a network drive to FileZilla?
Thanks for you assistance.
Gary

Not to Filezilla, but to Wordpad. Associate means to register the file type with the desired program (Wordpad in this case). If the right-click and Open works, it's already registered. Filezilla should automatically use it, too. (NOTE: Filezilla only uses the Open action)

i've got this same problem. my windows have serious problems - they're not recognising my attempts to set file associations, so in FileZilla i go Edit > Settings > File editing > Always use default editor and i set default editor to Wordpad. Seemed to work for a few minutes but now it's not letting me edit .php files and gives me error: "No program has been associated on your system with this file type"!

help!

*EDIT* sorry i just found it won't let me use the Open option on right clicking a file because of the above problem but it will let me use Edit! i guess i can make do now, just by using Edit and never Open, although using windows explorer it seems to recognise that .php files should be opened with Wordpad - it just won't recognise this using Open inside FileZilla

I've got this same problem. I've tried every combination in the settings panel but I still can only just use the 'Edit'. The 'Open' just gives me that error.
