website hacked

#1 Post by janetpowers » 2011-08-03 20:35

I just accidentally discovered that my web site has been hacked; I copied and pasted a statement from it to email and all of this porn stuff was embedded in it. I began looking into it and found that all the HTML files had been changed yesterday! I don't know how that can happen or how to avoid it, or even what bad it does if it can't be seen. So my question is, would changing my FZ password help? and how to do that?
Thannk you so much! Janet Powers

Most likely your own computer got compromised and the attackers got access that way. Run a good virus scanner to get rid of the malware. Make sure to weekly (better: daily) check for updates to all software you have installed and make sure to apply these updates.

Of course you should change all your passwords after cleaning.

A good idea is to keep all your password different as sell.

One more tip. For very important passwords write them into a text doc when you know your computer is clean, then simply copy and paste the pw every time you use it. Key loggers can't read what your pasting into the password field so this is the best way to be fully protected.

Another tip*: Most keyloggers get your password by having you submit it into the username field. If you ever type your username in and press tab to start typing in your password and you find that your are typing in the username box that is a sign of a key logger.

Hope this helps

Make sure you clean your computer thoroughly. You will want to make sure any keyloggers are removed.

I would also if i were you make sure that you are doing back ups for both your computer and your website so that if you must you will be able to go back to an uncorrupted version of each if needed. I own and operate a website that offers members a way to get free traffic to their website. I actually have to scan each of the sites before I allow them to show in the system so that they do not corrupt my server or my members computers. I would agree also that you should scan your computer every day.
