Uploading my own html & css to FileZilla

#1 Post by jcarando » 2011-12-26 23:00

I am very confused as to where I would upload my html & css files that I've already coded in another service into FileZilla. Folder options include the name of my domain, cgi-bin, logs, public_html, and www
I've tried uploading it to public_html but my site still says under construction
I'm just confused about the whole process, essentially. Help!

Topic moved as it doesn't have to do with FTP.

Please note that you can't upload anything ''to FileZilla'', as it is only a tool, not a service.

My fault. Essentially, I am asking how to get my website up and running. I have a host, domain name, etc. How do I put my html and css files on to the web?

You just upload the files. The exact location is dependent on the hoster, however, the public_html directory looks to be the correct one.
Just make sure that:
1. the website files and their subdirectories like images etc. are directly in public_html. Most people make the mistake to upload the complete directory containing the website files. This creates one excessive directory and causes the page to fail.
2. your browser cache is cleared to prevent loading old stuff from it.
3. your hoster does not use some caching or load-balancing feature. Doing so may delay changes you make to your site from going public.
