Cannot open .htm file in my default browser

#1 Post by jimmoreyzilla » 2013-01-10 18:30

When I want to open one of my .html (or .htm) files to give it a quick look I ---

- Right-click any local *.html file
- Select the "Edit" command

The file does not open with my default browser (chrome.) Instead it is always displayed in MS Internet Explorer. Have I misunderstood something?

Thanks in advance.

Jim

Looks like IE is registered for the Open verb for this file type in your system. Either change your system associations or setup a custom association in the settings of FileZilla.

botg---

Thanks for your response. Still no joy.

1) My file associations in XP have Chrome as default for .htm & .html.

2) I set the custom associations in Filezilla as:

htm "C:\Program Files\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe"
html "C:\Program Files\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe"

And IE continues to rear its ugly head.

1) My file associations in XP have Chrome as default for .htm & .html.
Probably only for your user account. FileZilla uses the system-wide setting.
2) I set the custom associations in Filezilla as:

htm "C:\Program Files\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe"
html "C:\Program Files\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe"

And IE continues to rear its ugly head.
You may have to disable the ''Inherit'' box and restart FileZilla.

Custom associations take priority, even if system associations are inherited. It appears as if Chrome itself spawns IE.

Wasn't this the other way around, previously?
