I have uploaded my index.html file with pictures imbedded and have also uploaded the individual pictures xxx.jpg.

I have the two boxes with small 'x' in the corner and when you click on them, the picture displays but not unless clicked.

What have I omitted to do?

To the best of my somewhat limited ability, it appears to be correct.

When I click on 'Open Link' the pictures come up on the full screen and the properties for both show them as being in the public_html directory.

Check your link and the code again.

just chk the extensions that you have used in the code.. If you are using chrome/firefox/opera , use the property inspector to trace the issue.. hope this will help you..
