How much HTML knowledge do I need for this? (web hosting)

Hello! I have a question regarding HTML (or coding in general) and web hosts.
I want to set up a personal blog type of website with my own domain name and a hosting service (I don't want to use any free ones like wordpress or blogspot), but I never had any business with web hosts before so I don't know if you need any sort of HTML/CSS/coding knowledge to be able to build a rather simple, but not entirely template-like website. I want to use 1and1 as the web host (and maybe the domain registrar too), some friend of mine recommended it who says I'll be fine but he's a tech genius so I'm not sure if I should believe him. They have so-called site building features, but I want to know, if anyone has experience with web hosts, how easy the UI is to handle for someone with very basic html knowledge, and if I should look into some more advanced html tutorials before purchasing a hosting package? Thank you in advance!

I think you’ll don’t need in depth knowledge on HTML.But if you expecting more than the web hosting, then you may need the HTML5 technology.

You can build a nice looking website without the most basic HTML knowledge by using Wordpress and one of many customized themes. However, if you want to add a touch of uniqueness to your, you'll have to either learn CSS or hire a web designer.
