Hi all,
I uploaded my 'sitemap.xml' file via Filezilla to my site's main catalog, but when i type example.com/sitemap.xml in address bar it gives me 404 error. Also when I check my site on sites for seo analysis I got information that I haven't 'sitemap.xml'. Only when I type example.com/sitemap I can view my sitemap file. I tried rename file too but then it looks like: 'sitemap.xml.xml'.
Is anyone here have idea how to fix this?
Many thanks in advance.

Re: Question about sitemap from newbie
If you can see it by putting 'example.com/sitemap' into your address bar it would suggest you have uploaded the file into a directory named 'sitemap' rather than the root of your web space.

Agree with audiopro on this one. Be sure you're uploading the 'sitemap.xml' file to the root directory and you should be able to access it by going to 'example.com/sitemap.xml'audiopro wrote:If you can see it by putting 'example.com/sitemap' into your address bar it would suggest you have uploaded the file into a directory named 'sitemap' rather than the root of your web space.
Re: Question about sitemap from newbie
What does "main catalog" mean anyway? You are either uploading the file to the wrong directory or not typing the URL correctly.

Hey Lumenix
You are not using SSL ? (https://)
Have you tried to submit it to Google Webmaster Tools, now Google Search Console?
Your sitemap should be: sitemap.xml
